Mauricio Rua is headed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Fame this summer.

“Shogun” will be enshrined in the “Pioneer” wing during a ceremony on June 27 in Las Vegas. Rua was a UFC light heavyweight champion and the 2005 Pride Fighting Championships middleweight grand prix champion.

“Shogun Rua is one of the greatest Brazilian athletes in combat sports history,” said UFC president and CEO Dana White. “Shogun had an incredible run in Pride and UFC, and he was fearless inside the Octagon. His fights against Mark Coleman, Chuck Liddell, Lyoto Machida, and Dan Henderson represent some of the most memorable moments in UFC history and helped put Brazilian MMA on the map. It will be an honor to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer during International Fight Week.”

Rua went 27-14-1 over the course of an MMA career that began in 2002. He notably captured the Pride middleweight grand prix with first-round KO/TKO victories against Alistair Overeem and Ricardo Arona on the same night at Pride “Final Conflict 2005” on Aug. 28, 2005.

Rua later won UFC light heavyweight gold with a first-round KO of Lyoto Machida at UFC 113 before relinquishing the belt to Jon Jones at UFC 128. The Brazilian has the most fights in (24), the most knockdowns (14) and the second-most KO/TKO (eight) victories in UFC history at light heavyweight.

In addition to those victories already mentioned, “Shogun” owns other notable wins over the likes of Quinton Jackson, Antonio Rogeirio Nogueira, Kevin Randleman, Forrest Griffin and Corey Anderson.
