Adam Lopez to Fight Danny Roman in First ShoBox Card of 2017

Showtime announced on Tuesday that Adam Lopez will taking on Danny Roman in the main event of the first ShoBox: The New Generation event of 2017. The two super bantamweights will collide in a 10-round matchup at Bally’s Atlantic City Hotel and Casino in New Jersey on Jan. 20.

Lopez (16-0-1, 8 KOs) has been lighting up the division since turning pro and has feasted on regional opposition. The San Antonio-based fighter is already ranked No. 3 by the WBA at 122 pounds and is coming off a knockout win over Carlos Valcarcel in November. He’s already conquered three previously-unbeaten prospects on ShoBox and is ready to take the next step in his career.

“This will be my toughest fight. It is all about levels and progressing,” Lopez said of the matchup between the 26-year-old world-ranked contenders. “This may be my last ShoBox fight so I want to save the best for the last.”

Roman (20-2-1, 7 KOs) has had a similar career path, but unlike his upcoming foe, the Los Angeles native has already tasted defeat and grown from it. Roman lost early in his career but has since reeled off 13 consecutive wins. His recent success has allowed him to finally make in onto a big show as his January duel will mark his first appearance on the long-running Showtime series.

“I’ve been extremely active over the last few years and now all the hard work is starting to pay off,” said Roman. “This is a tremendous opportunity and the type of fight I’ve been preparing for. Adam Lopez is a great fighter, and he’s highly ranked just like me. We are going to give the fans an exciting fight.”

The cable giant also revealed three other bouts that will culminate in another of the show’s popular quadrupleheaders. The co-feature will see Ronald Ellis (13-0-1, 10 KOs) taking on Christopher Brooker (11-2, 5 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout. Rounding out the card will be an eight-round super lightweight skirmish between former Olympian Wellington Romero (11-0-1, 5 KOs) and Kenneth Sims Jr. (10-0, 3 KOs) and Stephon Young (15-0-3, 6 KOs) will clash with fellow super bantamweight Daniel Rosas (19-3-1, 11 KOs), also in an eight-rounder.

The card will be televised live on Showtime beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
