Boxing: Golden Boy to Host Two Fight Cards in Three Days in August

Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions continues to host quality fight events throughout the year, and the company won’t be slowing down in August, as it was revealed that the organization will host two more boxing cards next month.

On Aug. 6, Golden Boy will promote a card in downtown Los Angeles featuring a 10-round featherweight showdown between Jorge “King” Diaz and late-replacement Abraham “Chamaco” Lopez. Diaz’s original opponent, Julian Ramirez, withdrew due to illness, allowing Lopez to fill his spot. The duel between Lopez (18-0-1, 13 KOs) and Diaz (18-3-1) is the featured bout of LA Fight Club, which will be held inside the Belasco Theater in the heart of the city.

The co-feature of the evening will be an eight-round super bantamweight encounter between unbeaten Roy Tapia (10-0-2, 5 KOs) and Juan Hernandez (18-5-1, 9 KOs). Also slated to appear on the bill are three new Golden Boy signees: Hector Tanajara, Jonathan Navarro and Joshua Franco. Francisco Ochoa, Pablo Rubio and Martin Regalado will compete on the off-TV portion of the card.

The main card will be televised live on Fox Deportes starting at 10p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Fast forward two days and up the road in Indio, Calif., where HBO Latino will televise a night of boxing from inside the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. The Aug. 8 lineup is set to be anchored by a brawl between Yoandris Salinas and Manuel Avila for a regional title.

Avila (17-0, 7 KOs) will face the toughest test of his career when he takes on Salinas (21-1-2, 14 KOs), a man who fought reigning WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (31-0-2, 23 KOs) to a draw two years ago; Salinas remains the only man Quigg hasn’t beaten.
