Boxing: PBC to Host Card on Bounce TV on Aug. 2

A day after what should be a terrific battle between Danny Garcia and Paulie Malignaggi, Premier Boxing Champions will host another boxing event in Winter Pak, Fla. at Full Sail University’s state-of-the-art performance venue. It is the debut of PBC’s new monthly series designed to showcase boxing’s newest prospects called PBC: The Next Round.

The headline bout of the evening will be a WBA super bantamweight championship between Juan Carlos Payano and Rau’shee Warren. The event’s co-feature is slated to be a two-fight tournament in the junior middleweight division. The first bout will be a showdown between Olympic silver medalist Yudel Jhonson (17-1, nine KOs) and Jorge Cota (24-1, 22 KOs). The second bout in the bracket will pit Olympian John Jackson (19-2, 15 KOs) against veteran Dennis Laurente (49-5, 30 KOs). The winners of the two bouts will duke it on a PBC: The Next Round card to be announced.

Payano, who is dubbed “Baby Pacquiao,” is set to defend his crown for the first time. Payano (16-0, eight KOs) won the title last September after he was awarded a technical decision win when then-champ Anselmo Moreno suffered a gash in the second round from a clash of heads. When the laceration halted the fight in the sixth, Payano was ahead on points and snatched the belt away.

A Cincinnati native, Warren has yet to taste defeat as a professional. A slick boxer with deceptive power, Warren is coming off a shocking first-round knockout of tough veteran Javier Gallo in March in Las Vegas. It was the first knockout for Warren (13-0, four KOs) in eight bouts.

The event will be televised live on Bounce TV, a new station founded by Andrew Young and Martin Luther King III. The first fight is scheduled to air at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT as well as stream live on BounceTV.com.
