Boxing Weigh-in Roundup: Andre Ward on the Money, Paul Smith Way Over
After being out of action for the better part of a year-and-a-half,
undefeated super middleweight champion Andre Ward will finally
return to action Saturday. At Friday’s weigh-in at the Oracle Arena
in Oakland, “Son of God” easily made the 172-pound catchweight,
tipping the scale exactly on the contracted weight.
But opponent Paul smith inexplicably came in 4.4 pounds over, crushing the scale at a whopping 176.4 pounds. Smith most recently fought in April where he weighed 165.5 pounds.
The Ward-Smith fight will air live on BET starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Across the continent inside the Belle Centre in Montreal, the weigh-ins for the Fox Sports 2 main event between Hassan N’Dam and David Lemieux went off without a hitch. The fight is for the vacant IBF middleweight title and both fighters easily hit the target weight. Lemieux clocked in at 160 pounds while N’Dam weighed in officially at 158.6 pounds.
The N’Dam-Lemieux showdown will air live on Fox Sports 2, also at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
