Boxing on HBO Latino Weigh-in Results: Mauricio Herrera, Hank Lundy on Target

Two long-time veterans of the fight game had one last hurdle to clear before competing in the ultimate crossroads-type of battle. Both Mauricio Herrera and Hank Lundy badly need a win Saturday night but only one will walk out of the Los Angeles Sports Arena with his hand raised (unless there is a lousy draw). Thankfully both men made their contracted junior welterweight limit this afternoon, making the fight official.

Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs) has never had the chance to fight for a world title, though he’s competed for and won a few regional titles along the way. The Philadelphia fighter has taken on a plethora of high quality opponents in his 10-year career. He holds wins over solid men like Richar Abril and David Diaz and though he came up short against John Molina Jr., Raymundo Beltran and, most recently, Thomas Dulorme, he gave them all problems.

With Herrera, he’s travelled a similar career path as his counterpart. The Californian, like Lundy, has squared off against several key fighters like Ji-Hoon Kim, Mike Alvarado and Karim Mayfield. “El Maestro” did fight for a legitimate world title when he lost to Danny Garcia last March, though he dropped a disputed split decision to “Swift.” Like his Saturday night foe, Herrera is coming off a loss and he desperately needs to get back on the winning track.

Lundy first walked onstage and made weight, officially clocking in at 139 pounds. Herrera, the hometown fighter, followed suit and came in four ounces heavier. They will lock horns for the regional NABF super lightweight title. Their match will be televised on HBO Latino starting at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
