Donald Cerrone blamed Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira for his own aggressive performance at UFC Live 5 Sunday at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

A self-professed slow starter, Cerrone got right to the point against the Brazilian upstart, finishing his overmatched foe with punches at 3:01 of the first.

“That was the game plan going into this fight,” said Cerrone on Versus’ postfight broadcast. “I was telling everyone that this is a fight that I get to showcase my skills on. He’s going to be right there throwing down and I’ll have no choice but to throwdown back.”

And throwdown he did. The Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts product went hard to the legs early with sharp low kicks, and then blasted his prey with a crushing uppercut to the sternum. A decorated finisher with 13 stoppages in 20 career bouts, Cerrone has favored patience early in the past, but the “Cowboy” smelled blood in the saddle and pounced.

“I seen his eyes kind of roll back so I thought ‘oh man I better jump on this guy.’”
