'Chocolatito' to Fight on Golovkin-Jacobs Undercard

Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez is finally set to return to the ring to defend his WBC super flyweight championship, and he’s doing it on one of the biggest events of the early portion of 2017.

The powerful Nicaraguan will take on Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in the co-feature of the Gennady Golovkin-Daniel Jacobs pay-per-view event on March 18. The card will take place in the hallowed Madison Square Garden in New York City and will also feature WBO cruiserweight champ Oleksandr Usyk.

Gonzalez is considered by many within boxing as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. With a stellar record of 46-0 with 38 KOs, the lethal-fisted little giant has been wrecking shop since turning pro in ’05. “Chocolatito” has already captured world titles at minimumweight, light flyweight and flyweight titles before edging Carlos Cuadras on points last September for the WBC super flyweight crown.

Gonzalez could have his hands full with Sor Rungvisai, though. The Thai fighter is 40-4-1 with 37 KOs and has won seven straight (six by knockout) since losing the title to Cuadras that Gonzalez currently owns. He began his career 1-3-1 before turning things around and becoming a world champion.
