Every Wednesday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the Sherdog.com blog. This week, Breen is joined by FoxSports.com's Damon Martin Damon Martin.
Tuesday provided some surprising fodder in the MMA headlines, with Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and Ultimate Fighting Championship boss Dana White going back-and-forth over the promotion offering Justino two shots at an inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title and a catchweight bout with Holly Holm, which the Brazilian turned down. Breen and Martin break down Justino’s explanation for why she opted not to take on a UFC title fight, when and where that may eventually happen and whether or not Cyborg’s frequent discussions with the MMA media, in both English and Portuguese, have helped or hurt her cause with her promoter and with fans.
The pair also tackle the logistics of a UFC women’s 145-pound division, the lack of depth in the division and how the company can potentially work around it and ultimately, whether or not the adage “If you build, they will come” applies to a women’s featherweight division and could lead to an influx of Olympic talents to the sport.
Grab your credential and get a seat in “Press Row.”
