Daniel Jacobs Pulverizes Sergio Mora in Rematch to Keep WBA Middleweight Championship

Daniel Jacobs has turned into one of boxing’s most lethal fighters, and if his performance on Saturday was a harbinger of what is to come, all future opponents need to be on the lookout.

A massive betting favorite entering his rematch with Sergio Mora in the Premier Boxing Champions on Spike main event, Jacobs proved why he ranks among the pound-for-pound best by electrifying the crowd inside Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. Jacobs beat Mora via second-round TKO in August 2015, when “The Latin Snake” broke his ankle after being knocked down; he made sure the conclusion was more emphatic this time around.

Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) rocked his rival a few times in the third round and then took him off his feet in the fourth and fifth. Mora (28-4-2, 9 KOs) was in way over his head, and while he never stopped trying to turn the tide, he could not withstand the power of the “Miracle Man.” The brutal punishment continued into the seventh, where Mora was bounced all around the ring from an onslaught of punches until the massacre was finally stopped at the 2:08 mark.

After retaining his WBA middleweight title, Jacobs called out Gennady Golovkin, who fights Kell Brook on Saturday in England.

In the co-feature, Robert Easter won a hard-fought split decision over Richard Commey to capture the vacant IBF lightweight title. Easter (18-0, 14 KOs) survived being rocked a few times in the duel and withstood a knockdown in the eighth to rally late and nearly take out Commey in the final round. Two of the ringside judges favored Easter with scores of 115-112 and 114-113, while the last saw it 114-113 for Commey (24-1, 22 KOs).
