Glory 44 Chicago Weigh-in Results: Doumbe, Groenhart Primed for Welterweight Title Fight

By Mike Sloan Aug 24, 2017
Glory is set to return to the Windy City on Friday night with another event loaded with action. The welterweight championship will be on the line as reigning welterweight champ Cedric Doumbe (67-4-1, 39 KOs) will defend against Murthel Groenhart (66-22-3, 38 KOs) and at Thursday’s official weigh-ins, everybody on the marquee made weight.

Doumbe previously defeated Groenhart at Glory 28 last year and is riding a 12-fight winning streak, with two of those wins coming over former titlist Nieky Holzken. Groenhart is coming off a spectacular knockout of Harut Grigorian at Glory 42 in June. Groenhart was the first of the featured fighters to tip the scale and he came in at 168.5 pounds. Doumbe followed suit and nailed it; the champ came in at 169 pounds.

Glory super bantamweight queen Tiffany Van Soest (17-2-1, 5 KOs) will make the first defense of her title when she takes on last-minute replacement Meryem Uslu (36-10-1, 12 KOs). Uslu is a former IMC, WLF, and WKF world champion and came in right on the money at 120 pounds. Van Soest a former two-division champ for Muay Thai promotion Lion Fight, was a pound heavier at 121.

Glory 44: Chicago will be broadcast live on ESPN3 at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT, preceded by the SuperFight Series on UFC Fight Pass at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
