Greg Jackson: Handling Success Will Be Jon Jones’ Biggest Test
Trainer Greg Jackson, on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing how he talks regularly with Jon Jones on staying grounded:
“I constantly do that, especially with Jon. I always tell him that success is going to be his biggest test. His biggest test won’t come in the Octagon. It will come dealing with all the intricacies that come with being such a successful, dynamic fighter. I sit down with a lot of my guys and … the main thing we say is, keep what’s important in mind and to not lose yourself. It’s very easy to lose yourself. I haven’t always been successful. I’ve had many fighters lose themselves, and I failed them. So far, so good with Jon and several of the other guys who’ve been very, very successful. Georges [St. Pierre] is one that never needs help with that. He’s so smart and so successful and still the same wonderful person, and so is Jon, honestly. But with Jon, I want to make sure that I kind of step in front of the bus, so to speak, to make sure that he can deal with stuff. He doesn’t need much because he’s also very smart, but that’s just me. I’m just trying to help out.”
