Heavyweight King Rico Verhoeven Set to Headline Glory’s Year-End Event

While exact details of the entire event have yet to be ironed out, Glory revealed that its massive year-end event will be headlined by its reigning heavyweight champion when Rico Verhoeven takes on old rival Jamal Ben Saddik.

Verhoeven (51-10-1, 14 KOs) first collided with Ben Saddik in March 2011 on an It’s Showtime card in Holland. Saddik was the better man that night, as he stopped “King of Kickboxing” a minute into the second. Since then, Verhoeven has gone on a tear, having captured the Glory heavyweight title and defended it five times. The Dutch fighter’s last two bouts inside the Glory ring have been non-title affairs.

Ben Saddik earned his crack at the champ’s throne by reigning supreme at Glory 39 by conquering Guto Inocente. The Belgium-born knockout artist has won six of his last seven, with four coming via stoppage. Ben Saddik (32-6, 26 KOs) was originally slated to face Verhoeven in May, but “Goliath” suffered an injury in training, thus postponing their showdown.

A host locale, as well as additional bouts and exact date for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
