How Chuck Liddell Helped Spark Jake Shields’ MMA Career

Jake Shields, on “Beatdown,” discussing how he got into MMA:

“I was just a young kid and I stumbled across it. I was wrestling in college and I stumbled across Chuck Liddell, seeing him with his funny haircut and karate tattoos. I thought he was some fake douchebag, so I went up and ran into him and talked to him a little bit, came by the gym and I got my ass kicked by Chuck. All of a sudden I fell in love with the sport. I started pretty much fighting right away. I think in three to four weeks I was in my first fight. I didn’t really have much planned. It was something that I loved. I fell in love with it instantly and then slowly turned it into a career.”
