PVT Mag 35: Brazil vs. The World at UFC 153

By Marcelo Alonso Oct 9, 2012

Two injuries threatened the success of the third edition of the UFC in Rio de Janeiro, with Jose Aldo and Quinton Jackson both forced out of action. Anderson Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira were filming a commercial in Sao Paulo, but when the call came from Dana White, asking if they could lend their talents to UFC 153, both agreed.

The 35th edition of PVT Mag brings all the details concerning another historic event in Brazil, from the twists and changes in the card, the calling of “The Spider” and “Mino,” and which fights could steal the show at HSBC Arena.

The new, free online edition also includes a story on Nova Uniao black belt Ramon Lemos, the leader of Atos Jiu-Jitsu and coordinator of Corinthians MMA Training Center. Besides training Anderson Silva on the ground for key recent bouts, Ramon also sharpened Junior dos Santos’ ground game for his title shot against Cain Velasquez, and assisted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in training for battle against Randy Couture .

In this issue’s instalment of “Alonso's Chest,” PVT editor Marcelo Alonso recalls the World Vale Tudo Championship 8, held in Aruba in July 1999, which featured the victories of Hugo Duarte and Alexandre Ferreira, who defeated stronger, taller prospect Heath Herring on a night that featured a mixture of MMA, soccer and music.
