Dominic Breazeale vs. Fred Kassi

Round 1

Breazeale comes right out with a stiff jab. Kassi backs off but misses a loopy left hook. Breazeale is patient, looking to set up that right hand behind the jab. Kassi looks a little intimidated by the sheer size disadvantage he finds himself in. Kassi jabs to the body just as he eats one in return. Left hook by Breazeale misses but his follow-up right doesn’t. Kassi fires back with a right hook, but it’s a glancing blow. Breazeale walks into a grazing left hook with a minute left. Kassi fires off a pair of jabs and then a sweeping right hand. Breazeale takes a left hook on the inside. Left hook/left uppercut by Breazeale at the bell, though both were partially blocked. 10-9 Breazeale.

Round 2

Breazeale comes right out with a pair of jabs. Kassi backs away as he’s taking jab after jab. Hard right to the body by Breazeale, but Kassi is unfazed. Another thudding right to the body by Breazeale and Kassi is in trouble. He stumbles into the ropes as Breazeale unloads a flurry. Kassi storms back with a hard right and left to the head, which backs the larger Breazeale off. Hard left hook/right cross by Kassi, his best punches of the fight. Another cracking right to the gut by Breazeale with 30 seconds left. Kassi gets inside and nails his foe with a hard right uppercut but his follow-up left hook just misses. Close round. 10-9 Kassi.

Round 3

Breazeale misses a left hook to start the frame but it glances off his foe. Kassi shoves Breazeale during a clinch and is warned by referee Jeff Dodson. Kassi continues to back off, but he’s exchanging jabs with Breazeale, whose reach is much longer. Breazeale lands a stiff jab and then a right to the body before being tied up. 1-2 by Breazeale, though Kassi parries them both. Kassi switches from southpaw to orthodox repeatedly, but Breazeale isn’t bothered by it. They trade decent blows at the end of the round. 10-9 Breazeale.

Round 4

Hard left hook to the forehead by Kassi rakes Breazeale, but the larger man walks right through it. Breazeale continues to slowly plod forward, trying to set up his attacks behind his pawing jab. Another left hook by Kassi, followed by a right to the ribs by Breazeale. Hard right to the dome by Breazeale. Lead left/right hook by Kassi, followed by a huge left hook by the smaller heavyweight. Breazeale wakes up and clubs him with an overhand right and Kassi backs into the ropes. They trade blows with Kassi’s back to the ropes before they clinch. Breazeale crushes Kassi’s stomach with a wicked right uppercut. Good action this round. Very close one. 10-9 Breazeale.

Round 5

Kassi pops him with a lead left to open things up. Breazeale jabs away, but Kassi eventually presses him into the ropes after a left hook. Breazeale seems to be in slow motion as he stalks Kassi. Nice left hand upstairs by Kassi, and then a right. Breazeale answers with a jab and then a right to the midsection. Right uppercut/left hook to the melon by Kassi. He follows it up with a right cross. Breazeale takes them all and tosses out a few jabs. Breazeale lands a few jabs and then an overhand right with 25 seconds left. Breazeale opens up with an assault as Kassi backs off, but Kassi makes him miss virtually everything. 10-9 Kassi.

Round 6

Breazeale slowly plods along, rattling off a few jabs early. Kassi bobs and weaves, countering his foe with a loopy right to the head. Kassi lands a solid left hook on the inside. Breazeale throws three jabs and then a straight right, but they all fall short. Kassi sticks and moves well, tagging Breazeale to the body before touching him upstairs. The former Olympian gets through with an overhand right, but Kassi comes right back with a left hook. 10-9 Breazeale.

Round 7

Breazeale fires off a few decent jabs followed by a right. Kassi circles away, trying to counter. Breazeale cracks him with a hard right to the body but misses his right-handed missile upstairs. Nice left hook to the jaw by Kassi. Breazeale goes back to the jab but Kassi cracks him with another hard right and left. Breazeale is throwing one or two punches at a time and he appears to be pressing a little. Three-punch combo by Breazeale misses but he’s taken the round back with a series of jabs and an overhand right. Close round. 10-9 Breazeale.

Round 8

A couple jabs by Breazeale but Kassi tags him with a sweeping right cross. Hard lead left to the mouth by Kassi with his back against the ropes. Breazeale stands there, pawing with the jab but he’s not letting his punches go. Breazeale digs a pair of hard hooks to the body. Kassi takes a few more body shots before jabbing his way out. Breazeale unfurls a multitude of punches, but he misses them all. Left hook to the chest by Breazeale with 15 seconds left. Kassi comes alive but it’s too late. 10-9 Breazeale.

Round 9

Kassi backs into the ropes before busting Breazeale’s grill with a hard left/right. Jab/left hook by Kassi as Breazeale suddenly has become a mannequin again. Breazeale drives a long right into Kassi’s stomach but his follow-up left hook misses. Kassi circles to his left and pops his foe with a pair of jabs. Breazeale walks into a left and right, but he is able to block them both. Breazeale lands a few decent shots upstairs as Kassi backs into a corner. Right uppercut by Kassi on the inside by Breazeale comes back with a right hook to the body. Breazeale nails him with a sizzling right hand late. 10-9 Kassi.

Round 10

Breazeale is likely ahead on points going into this, the final round, but many of the rounds have been so close they could go either way. Breazeale pops off a few jabs but Kassi counters with a leaping right cross. Hard left hook by Kassi as the hulking Dominick walks in. Breazeale opens up with a nice flurry to the head and body, but Kassi blocks most of the shots. Breazeale is a little more urgent this round, possibly because he thinks he’s behind. Kassi backs off Decent right to the noggin by Kassi with a minute left. Breazeale comes back with a straight and left hook but Kassi counters with a left hook. Kassi clinches and forces Breazeale into a corner with 15 seconds left after getting hit with a left. They swing wildly for a few moments at the end, but nothing clean lands for either. 10-9 Kassi (96-94 Breazeale).

WBC Heavyweight Title Fight: Deontay Wilder vs. Johann Duhaupas

Round 1

Wilder immediately goes to the jab. Duhaupas does the same, but he is tagged by a right to the top of the head. Duhaupas triples up his jab but Wilder stays back to block them. Left hook behind the glove by the champ, followed by a sharp jab. Duhaupas closes the gap and doubles up his right hook, but Wilder blocks them. Duhaupas is very aggressive, applying plenty of pressure but Wilder is calm and relaxed. Wilder backs into the ropes, where Duhaupas cracks him with a right cross. Wilder backs away and lands a series of jabs before sending his foe back with a hard right hand. Duhaupas continues to press forward, but his punches are mostly blocked. There’s a cut on the bridge of Duhaupas’ nose late and just before the bell, Wilder nails him with a counter right cross. Close round, actually.

Round 2

Jab-jab-scorching right to the ribs by the champ. Hard right behind the guard for wilder, but Duhaupas takes it well. Wilder continues to jab but Duhaupas is relentless. Duhaupas doubles up his jab but he can’t land his follow-up overhand right. Wilder continues to use the jab but Duhaupas has a nice defensive shell going on. Nice 1-2 by Wilder but Duhaupas takes it well. Duhaupas jabs to the body but misses with a right uppercut. Wilder quadruples the jab with 30 seconds left. There is a little swelling under the left eye of the champ very late. Nice jab at the bell by Duhaupas, who is having himself a good fight thus far.

Round 3

Duhaupas cracks him with a hard left jab after taking two light ones from the champ. Wilder backs away before pawing with his jab again. Duhaupas goes to the stomach before missing with a wild right upstairs. Wilder doubles up the left hook but the Frenchman blocks them both. Wilder is stuck in a pattern of backing up while jabbing, but telegraphing his solitary right hand. Duhaupas continues to press forward but Wilder nails him with that right. Double jab/right to the dome by Duhaupas with a minute left. Wilder cracks him with a powerful right cross and Duhaupas stops in his tracks. Wilder opens up with a barrage to the head, but Duhaupas blocks most of the shots. After riding out the storm, Duhaupas comes alive and presses the champ back toward the ropes with a left and right. Good action late.

Round 4

Duhaupas charges after Wilder and presses him into the corner. Wilder lands a jab but misses with a monstrous right uppercut by mere inches. Duhaupas plugs away at the body. Wilder’s left eye is swelling up more but it doesn’t seem to be bothering him. Duhaupas walks through a series of jabs, trying to get inside. Lead left hook by wilder rocks the challenger, which leads to Wilder opening up with a short storm of shots. Duhaupas clears his head and lands a right of his own. Duhaupas is now bleeding above his left eye with a minute left. Wilder misses another ferocious right uppercut; he was two far outside. Wilder doubles up the left hook to the gut, but Duhaupas keeps coming. Wilder’s left eye is swollen almost shut very late in the frame. Two counter right crosses by Wilder close out the fourth.

Round 5

Duhaupas comes forward but he’s not letting his hands go. Wilder pops him with a check hook before going back to the jab. Lead right to the jaw stops Duhaupas in his tracks momentarily but the Frenchman’s jaw is sturdier than a fire hydrant. Wilder goes with the jab again and again. Deontay cracks him with a sizzling right cross and then a left hook. An overhand right snaps Duhaupas’ head back at the midway point. Wilder is starting to really open up his arsenal and it’s beginning to break the challenger down. Wilder drills him with a right uppercut on the inside and Duhaupas appears to be hurt. He backs into the ropes and Wilder tees off on him. Duhaupas covers up while Wilder slams punches from everywhere. Referee jack Reiss is right on them both, ready to jump in. Duhaupas is saved by the bell.

Round 6

Duhaupas comes right after Wilder early, but Deontay keeps him honest with the jab. Wilder pops with a few jabs and then a check hook. Duhaupas takes them and sticks his jab out there. Hard left/right by the champ. Wilder lands a glancing right uppercut just as he’s nailed by a left hook. Clubbing overhand right from way outside lands for Wilder. 1-2 by Wilder and Duhaupas has stopped throwing briefly. Hard left hook to the body by Wilder is nasty but he misses with a wild left hook up top. Duhaupas ties him up with 20 seconds left. Wilder nails him with another thudding right hand just before the round ends.

Round 7

Duhaupas lands a decent left jab, but Wilder comes right back with a pair of his own. They trade clean rights to the head before Wilder switches back to the jab. Duhaupas swallows a vicious left hook and he stumbles back into the ropes. Duhaupas ties him up and then exits out his right. Right uppercut on the inside by Wilder rocks Duhaupas, who then takes a left hook. His chin is amazing as he backs into the ropes. Wilder is all over him but can’t put him down. Reiss warns him that he’ll stop it. They clinch a few times but Wilder pecks away with short punches on the inside. A whistling right uppercut from the champ with Duhaupas’ back to the ropes with 25 seconds left. Duhaupas takes some punishment and his corner should consider stopping it.

Round 8

Wilder slams a right hook into his foe’s body. Duhaupas throws a few jabs out there before wilder touches him with an overhand right. 1-2 by Wilder followed by a right uppercut from far outside. Duhaupas lands a double jab but he’s countered by another right to the dome. Wilder backs off, which allows Duhaupas to land a decent right to the cheek. Duhaupas comes alive with a flurry, punctuated by a left hook. Wilder has slowed down completely late but he throws a few jabs out there. Wilder misses a wild overhand right just before the bell. Much closer round this time around. 10-9 Wilder

Round 9

Duhaupas looks recharged as he jabs to the head and body before clubbing the champ with a right hook to the ribs. Wilder opens up with a barrage of hooks upstairs, but the challenger blocks them all. Hard, stiff jab by Wilder as he backs away. Duhaupas closes the gap and digs a few rights to the body before going upstairs with an uppercut. They trade left hooks at the midway point. Counter right cross to the ear by Wilder before he moves out to his right. Wilder is starting to look fatigued late but he’s sticking with the jab. Duhaupas continues to press the action, but he can’t get through the champ’s guard. They miss wild left and right hooks before the bell.

Round 10

Duhaupas tags him with a double jab to start the stanza. Wilder is on his bike early, allowing Duhaupas to land a few jabs and then a loopy right hand. Nice left hook by Wilder, who has been throwing only single punches the last minute or so. Duhaupas continues to come right at him, digging to the body and head. Hard left jab by the champ at the midway point, but he’s looking more tired as the round wears on. Wilder explodes with a nasty left hook and right cross. Duhaupas is rocked and covers up. Wilder tears into him with a furious assault. Duhaupas looks ready to go as Wilder continues his surge. Duhaupas backs into the ropes and then is drilled by another hard right through the guard. Again, the Frenchman survives the round.

Round 11

There’s a nice mouse growing underneath Duhaupas’ left eye. Duhaupas comes right at the champ, trying to erase the memories of the previous round. Wilder reels off a series of jabs before rocking him with a sinister right cross. Duhaupas is hurt and he backs off. Wilder explodes with a hellacious onslaught of lefts and rights to the head, but Duhaupas blocks them. The challenger is very unsteady as Wilder continues to club away at him. Reiss is ready to step in as Duhaupas backs himself into the ropes. Wilder slams a left hook and then a wild right to the head just as Reiss finally has seen enough. He jumps in and stops the mugging.
