Sergey Kovalev-Nadjib Mohammedi Fight Pushed Back a Week

Mike SloanMay 16, 2015

The light heavyweight world championship between Sergey Kovalev and mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi was officially announced Saturday, but the original date has been changed. The fight will now take place a week later -- July 25 -- inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs) has been on a tear with huge, dominating wins over Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal. The unbeaten pound-for-pound entrant should have his hands full against the tricky, tough Mohammedi (37-3, 23 KOs), who has won 13 straight bouts.

The fight will be for the IBF strap that the Frenchman is the mandatory challenger for, as well as Kovalev’s WBO and WBA titles. The championship bout will be televised live on HBO, with an undercard to be announced in the coming weeks.
