Ever since he defeated Josh Grispi at UFC 125, expectations for Dustin Poirier have been sky high. The Louisiana native has been given his biggest stage yet at UFC on Fuel TV 3 “Korean Zombie vs. Poirier”, where he will take on Chan Sung Jung in the main event.
The majority of players in Sherdog.com MMA Pick’Em fantasy game have hitched their wagon to the promising Poirier, as 62 percent like him to defeat “The Korean Zombie” on Tuesday.
“The Diamond” made his Zuffa debut in 2010, falling to Team Alpha Male product Danny Castillo via unanimous decision at WEC 50. He has not lost since, defeating Zachary Micklewright in his final WEC bout before heading to the Octagon, where he has topped Grispi, Jason Young, Pablo Garza and Max Holloway in succession.
He will face the most difficult challenge of his career in Jung, who is coming off a shocking knockout of former featherweight No. 1 contender Mark Hominick at UFC 140. The Korean Top Team export also won his UFC debut by submitting Leonard Garcia with the rarely seen twister, avenging a previous loss under the WEC banner to “Bad Boy.” Known for his brawling style, Jung has finished 10 of his 12 victories by knockout or submission.
UFC on Fuel TV 3 takes place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va., and also features the return of Donald Cerrone, who went 4-1 in UFC bouts in 2011. A whopping 92 percent of contestants favor the “Cowboy” against knockout artist Jeremy Stephens in a lightweight contest.
Stephens last appeared at UFC 136, where he dropped a split decision to former WEC titlist Anthony Pettis. Cerrone suffered his first loss in the Octagon against Nate Diaz at UFC 141 after winning his first four bouts with the promotion.
