TJ De Santis Joins Press Row

Every Wednesday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the Sherdog.com blog. This week, Breen is joined by Sherdog Radio Network Program Director and Invicta FC and Eddie Bravo Invitational play-by-play commentator TJ De Santis.

On Tuesday, Bellator MMA announced the signing of notable play-by-play voices Mike Goldberg and Mauro Ranallo. Following the news, Breen and De Santis dig into the signings mean for future Bellator broadcasts, the extent to which “less is more” when broadcasting MMA and the most effective way to utilize Spike's growing number of on-air combat sports personalities.

Breen and De Santis also discuss their own personal experiences when broadcasting MMA, as both a color commentator or play-by-play announcer respectively, the unique difficulties of calling combat sports live, the state and evolution of MMA commentary in 2017, as well as the best and worst of the sport's play-by-play announcers.
