On Sept. 22, 2007, the UFC held UFC 76, which featured a light heavyweight headliner.

In the main event, Keith Jardine upset former champion Chuck Liddell with a split decision victory while, in the co-main event, Forrest Griffin upset Pride veteran and then-UFC newcomer Mauricio “Shogun” Rua with a third round rear-naked choke submission victory. The latter would go down as the Upset of the Year.

UFC 76 also featured Jon Fitch edging out a decision win over Diego Sanchez and Lyoto Machida beating Kazuhiro Nakamura. On the prelims, Anthony Johnson lost by submission to Rich Clementi at a 177-pound catchweight after “Rumble” missed weight. This would also go down as his first loss as a pro. The fight before that saw Jeremy Stephens pick up his first win inside the Octagon as he took a decision over Diego Saraiva.
