UFC Champ Chris Weidman Receives Black Belt from Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie

Chris Weidman has accomplished plenty in his professional mixed martial arts career, but he only just recently received his black belt from Matt Serra and Renzo Gracie. The UFC middleweight champion posted pictures of the accomplishment to various social media accounts on Tuesday.

A two-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Hofstra University, Weidman initially turned heads with his grappling ability at the 2009 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships, where he held his own with highly-regarded black belt Andre Galvao. Weidman was a purple belt at the time.

Weidman has displayed a versatile skill set since entering the MMA realm, blending his wrestling and grappling with constantly improving striking to post a 12-0 record en route to capturing middleweight gold. He will next defend his 185-pound strap against Vitor Belfort at UFC 187 on May 23 in Las Vegas.

Gonna be wearing this around for a while. Thanks again @Renzograciebjj and Matt Serra for all the hard work!!
