Van Roosmalen to Fight Kiatmookao for Vacant Featherweight Crown at Glory 41
Though the matchup was set ins tone last Saturday at Glory 39 in
Brussels, the kickboxing world now knows exactly when Robin van
Roosmalen will take on Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao. The two will
collide for the vacant Glory featherweight title in the main event
of Glory 41: Holland on May 20.
Van Roosmalen (37-7, 21 KOs), a former lightweight champion for the promotion, lost his Glory featherweight crown at Glory 37 when he failed to make the 145-pound limit. The Dutch banger went on to topple Matt Embree, but the weigh-in mishap forced the title to be vacated and now he wants to win it back. Van Roosmalen is still the only man to win Glory titles in two separate weight classes.
Kiatmookao (156-35-2, 25 KOs) was impressive last week when he
dominated both Alexei Ulianov and former Glory featherweight king
Serhiy Adamchuk in the one-night four-man contender tournament.
“The Professor” picked both foes apart in winning unanimous
decision over both opponents, which is what van Roosmalen predicted
before the tourney began.
Promotion officials also revealed that a four-man heavyweight tournament will help round up out the Glory 41 main card, while the SuperFight Series undercard will include a lightweight battle between Michael Duut (40-6, 17 KOs) and Mourad Bouzidi (79-22-2, 34 KOs). Mike Lemaire (18-4, 8 KOs) will oppose Chinese newcomer Zhou Wei (22-6) as well.
Additional bouts for both the Glory 41 main card and SuperFight Series undercard will be announced in the coming weeks. The event will go down inside Brabanthallen Exhibition Centre in Den Bosch, Netherlands, though exact U.S. broadcasting information has yet to be determined.
