What Johny Hendricks Learned from Fighting Hurt Against Carlos Condit

By Sherdog.com Staff Apr 3, 2013
Johny Hendricks, on “Beatdown,” discussing what he learned while fighting with an injured hand against Carlos Condit:

“One thing I’ve got to do better is definitely with a taller guy, even though we trained with really extremely tall guys, one thing I’ve got to do is if I know that I’m injured, I can’t let him back up so easily. That’s the way I’ve always done with jiu-jitsu, is if I take them down ... I’ll try to land a couple of punches and then if they want to get back up, that’s all right. I’d much rather be on my feet, but with an injured weapon, I have to say, ‘All right, I have to do everything I can to keep the guy on his back.’ That’s something I was sort of failing to do. And Carlos Condit did a great job. He’s very talented off his back as well. He’s very active off his back, and that’s something that I’ve never faced before. That’s something that was great to learn, and I did do OK, but I didn’t do great. That’s something that I need to grow on.”
