Yunieski Gonzalez to Face Vyacheslav Shabranskyy on Dec. 19

Golden Boy Promotions announced Thursday afternoon its next card for HBO Latino, which will take place on Dec. 19 at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y.. Slated to be headlined by a 10-round light heavyweight skirmish between Yunieski Gonzalez and Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, the action will be televised live beginning at 12:15 a.m. ET/9:15 p.m. PT.

Gonzalez (16-1, 12 KOs) last fought in Las Vegas in July, where he dropped a unanimous 10-round decision to former world champion Jean Pascal. Originally from Cuba, the Miami resident had reeled off seven consecutive knockouts before falling to Pascal. Gonzalez declared in the fight announcement that he will not leave his fate in the hands of the judges this time.

Shabranskyy (14-0, 12 KOs) is a ruthless Ukrainian slugger who is constantly pressuring his foes. He has gotten the attention of much of the boxing world and he hopes to continue his winning ways in front of a large viewing audience.

“I am excited about fighting Gonzalez on HBO Latino on Dec. 19,” said Shabranskyy. “I respect him as a fighter and I’m happy for the opportunity to close the year as part of an event of this magnitude. I have been working very hard my whole career and I’m ready for this fight. I want to thank my team for all the hard work and faith in me. I am a man of few words; I rather let my gloves do all the talking when it comes to boxing.”

The co-feature will see Gabriel Rosado (21-9, 13 KOs) squaring off against veteran Joshua Clottey over 10 rounds of a junior middleweight affair. Once one of the most promising contenders on the circuit, Rosado has fallen on hard times, losing five in a row. Though one of the setbacks was changed to a no contest when opponent J’Leon Love tested positive for a banned diuretic, the Philadelphian is eager to get back to his wining ways.

“I have been eager to get back in the ring,” stated Rosado. “I have been training and staying in shape and my last few fights on BKB have given me the confidence to return with a vengeance. I plan to show everyone that I have what it takes to become a world champion. Fernando Vargas my new trainer believes in me, and I feel he's the trainer that's going to take me to the next level. We're having a great camp; I'm learning a lot of new things that will show Dec. 19.”

After losing back-to-back fights to Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao, Clottey (39-4, 22 KOs) has won four straight. He expects to continue his hot streak on his way to bigger paydays.

“I am very excited to be on HBO again and am very grateful for the opportunity,” said Joshua Clottey. “I am looking forward to fighting Gabe Rosado who I know is a very tough fighter. I know it will be a very good fight which I am confident I will win.”

The HBO Latino telecast will immediately follow the HBO Boxing After Dark event, held at the same venue. Headlined by Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) versus Luis Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) in a heavyweight clash, the telecast will go live on HBO at 10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT. A junior lightweight rumble between Nicholas Walters (26-0, 21 KOs) and Jason Sosa (18-1-3, 14 KOs) will ignite the televised portion of the card.
