Zahabi: GSP Tore ACL Trying to Train Around Injury
Trainer Firas Zahabi, on “Beatdown,”
discussing how Georges
St. Pierre tore his ACL:
“When Georges got injured, he only got injured because there was a fight coming up and we didn’t want him to miss the fight. We tried to train around [an existing knee injury]. Things got worse. … We were a little bit stubborn. Maybe it would have been in hindsight wiser to cancel the fight. Maybe do the fight a little bit later? But when you’re in the heat of training, there’s nothing that’s going to stop you. You’re in the mindset in that, if your arm falls off and you could pass the medical, you’re still going to fight.
