More on Strikeforce - Tate vs. Rousey
Ronda Rousey’s brash approach has clearly gotten under the skin of Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate.
The two have engaged in a heated war of words in the weeks leading up to their main event bout at Strikeforce “Tate vs. Rousey” on Saturday at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Players in the Sherdog MMA Pick’Em fantasy game apparently like Rousey’s confidence, as 71 percent have chosen “Rowdy” to defeat Tate.
A judo bronze medalist in the 2008 Olympic Games, Rousey has transitioned nicely to MMA, submitting each of her first four opponents via armbar in less than a minute. Most recently, she elicited a tapout from Julia Budd in 39 seconds in November.
Tate, meanwhile, brings much more experience to the table than her opponent. A veteran of 14 professional fights, “Takedown” has not tasted defeat since a loss to Sarah Kaufman in 2009. The Team Alpha Male product earned the 135-pound title by defeating Marloes Coenen at Strikeforce/M-1 Global “Fedor vs. Henderson.”
Despite a lengthy hiatus due to injury, 68 percent of participants believe Josh Thomson can shake off his ring rust to defeat K.J. Noons in a lightweight affair.

Sarah Kaufman stands but one win away from a crack at the title she once held. Popular opinion is on her side.
An overwhelming 97 percent of users with the Sherdog MMA Pick’Em fantasy game expect Kaufman to defeat Alexis Davis as part of the Strikeforce “Tate vs. Rousey” prelims on Saturday at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The winner of their three-round encounter figures to emerge as the top... Read More

Other hot topics in MMA center on boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s mouth and UFC President Dana White’s response, along with the buildup to the showdown between Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate and unbeaten Olympic silver medalist Ronda Rousey on March 3. We close out this week’s list with a subject likely to be popular among MMA fans: beatings.

When she was a kid, Miesha Tate smashed a boy in the face who was giving her a hard time.
She walked on to the high school wrestling mats and overcame a less-than-warm reception from her weary male counterparts. In college, she learned submissions in an MMA club with scant female participants.
It’s been a symbolic athletic career for Tate, who’s become a face of female mixed martial arts as Strikeforce’s 135-pound champion. Ahead of her anticipated title defense against Ronda Rousey on March...
