The winner of Gray Maynard’s UFC 160 clash with T.J. Grant will receive the next crack at lightweight champion Benson Henderson.

Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White announced the news at UFC on Fox 7 on April 20, shortly after Henderson retained his title in a split decision victory over Gilbert Melendez at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Henderson and Melendez battled for 25 minutes in the main event, with both men scoring meaningful shots throughout the contest. Though the judges were divided in their verdict, it was “Smooth” who saw his hand raised and his winning streak extended to seven fights.

“I’m a fighter, not a judge. It’s not my job to judge the fights. I definitely thought I lost the first round, but I felt I won the next four,” Henderson told Fox Sports following his third successful title defense. “I haven’t been able to watch the fight yet, so give me a little leeway, but I did personally feel that I won the next four.”

Should Maynard best Grant on May 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, he would be granted his third shot at the UFC lightweight title. “The Bully” challenged for the...

As soon as an injured Alistair Overeem stepped out of his UFC 160 co-main event with Junior dos Santos, the masses began to clamor for Mark Hunt as his replacement. Apparently, the parties involved were listening. Hunt has agreed to lock horns with the former heavyweight champion on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be headlined by the American Kickboxing Academy’s Cain Velasquez, as he puts his heavyweight crown on the line in a rematch with Antonio Silva.

Dos Santos suffered his first defeat in 10 Octagon appearances in December, when he relinquished the heavyweight championship to Velasquez in a one-sided unanimous decision defeat. The 28-year-old Brazilian burst on the scene in October 2008 with an upset over...

Alistair Overeem’s loss turned into Antonio Silva’s gain.

Cain Velasquez will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight crown against “Bigfoot” Silva in the UFC 160 main event on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Overeem will lock horns with former champion Junior dos Santos in the co-headliner.

Velasquez’s pairing with Silva will serve as a rematch of their one-sided UFC 146 encounter in which the American Kickboxing Academy ace grounded and gashed “Bigfoot” with devastating ground-and-pound en route to a bloody first-round technical knockout. Velasquez used the performance as a springboard in December, as he avenged his 2011 defeat to dos Santos and reclaimed the heavyweight title in a dominant unanimous decision at UFC 155.
