Simpson: Not Just Anyone Can Outwrestle Anderson Silva
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Aaron Simpson, on “Beatdown,” discussing the idea that anyone who tries to wrestle and control Anderson Silva could be able to pull it off:

“I think it’s ridiculous. You’ve got to have a background like Chael Sonnen to do what Chael Sonnen did. Wrestling just doesn’t come to you in a couple of years. Guys like Josh Koscheck have that, guys like Chael have that … . I started wrestling when I was 4 years old and I’m 37 now. I’ve got 33 years of wrestling. I haven’t competed the last several years in wrestling, but I still wrestle. I’m still around the sport. I still have developed [from] years and years of going to camps and spending my summers at training camps and going up to the Olympic Training Center and wrestling and being in a college environment where we have three-hour practices -- the most grueling practices ever. Once you go through that stuff and that’s in your back pocket -- you can’t make up for it any other way. For someone to think … that’s the type of style they can [beat Silva with], they better have that background. They better have put the time in to think they can go in there and do that.” -

The guys also chatted with Leonard Garcia and Nam Phan who face one another this coming Saturday in Houston at UFC 136.
"Beatdown" was also live Monday with myself and Jon Luther. Joining us was UFC 135 participant Aaron Simpson.

While Fighting, Simpson Has Heard Boos, Wife’s Screams
Aaron Simpson (Pictured), on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing the boos he heard from the crowd while fighting Brad Tavares at UFC 132:

“I heard it. I can recall hearing it. I hear certain little things. Like every once in a while I hear my wife yell out, which is kind of crazy. I hear her screaming. I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s Kendra.’ But it’s weird some of the things you hear, and sometimes you don’t hear anything. You walk out of the fight and you don’t remember any of it. But yeah, you hear [boos] and you want to pick it up. They’ll get you going sometimes. I’m happy if they boo if they’re not happy with the action, but at the same time, they’ve got to understand the fight. They’ve got to understand kind of what’s going into it and the background of it and who the two fighters are and stuff like that. But I appreciate it. I appreciate them voicing their opinion.” -

A two-time collegiate All-American wrestler at Arizona State University, Simpson suffered his first professional defeat in June, when he succumbed to second-round punches from Chris Leben at “The Ultimate Fighter 11” Finale in Las Vegas. The 36-year-old Gunnison, Colo., native was a four-time state wrestling champion in high school, where he compiled a remarkable 142-1 record. Simpson won his first seven mixed martial arts bouts, finishing six of them.
