R.J. Clifford Joins Press Row
By: Jordan Breen
Every Wednesday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the Sherdog.com blog. This week, Breen welcomes Sherdog contributor and SiriusXM radio host R.J. Clifford to “Press Row.”

With another fight in the bag for prizefighting's biggest star Floyd Mayweather Jr., Breen and Clifford look at how the dynamics of star power in the UFC and how it has developed in recent years. The duo examine the pound-for-pound trio of Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre and Jon Jones as the UFC's true crossover attention-grabbers, how the UFC's alpha dogs have acquired so much bargaining power in the last two to three years, the willingness to call many notable MMA fighters “stars” and Anderson Silva's recent $50,000 fine from Zuffa.
Breen and Sherdog's “Smartest Guy at the Bar” also touch on how truly competitive title fights may or may not have the strongest grasp on casual consumers and what that means for bouts such as Silva-Chris Weidman and St. Pierre-Johny Hendricks in 2013.

Anderson Silva wants to fight well into his 40s. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva turned 38 on April 14, but the Brazilian juggernaut appears to have no plans for early retirement. In fact, if his words in a recent interview with a Brazilian media outlet are to be believed, Silva has designs on fighting for five more years.
“The Spider” will defend his middleweight crown against the undefeated Chris Weidman in the UFC 162 main event on July 6 in Las Vegas.
Viewed by many as the top pound-for-pound fighter in MMA history, Silva will carry a 17-fight winning streak into his next outing. He last appeared at UFC 153 in October, when he moonlighted as a light heavyweight and steamrolled Stephan Bonnar at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Silva has finished 15 of his 17 foes during his current tear, which includes victories over onetime two-division Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Dan Henderson, former middleweight King of Pancrase Nate Marquardt, 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist Demian Maia and three former UFC champions: Rich Franklin (twice), Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin.
Silva has not suffered a legitimate defeat since Dec. 31, 2004, when he submitted to a flying scissor heel hook from Ryo Chonan in Japan.

PVT Mag 41: 'Shogun' and 'Minotoro' Renew Their Rivalry
By: Marcelo Alonso
In 2001, a simple incident at breakfast before Pride 16 touched off the epic rivalry between Chute Boxe and Brazilian Top Team. Four years later, the conflict reached its climax in the finals of the Pride 2005 Grand Prix, as Mauricio Rua and Wanderlei Silva represented Rudimar Fedrigo's team against BTT's Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona.. With Rua and Nogueira set for a rematch of their all-time classic at UFC 161 in June, PVT Mag 41 takes you back eight years to revisit the bout and discuss the contest with its participants.
This edition also analyzes the potential superfight between Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre. One has the most title defenses in UFC history, while the other has the most UFC wins ever. One is the greatest striker in UFC history, the other, the most effective wrestler ever in the Octagon. These fighting geniuses are polar opposites, so how does one even size up this matchup? PVT Mag 41 goes inside the statistics and talks to the experts about who really rules the sport.
“Alonso's Relics” recalls the third edition of the International Vale Tudo Championship. IVC 3 was staged December 10, 1997, in Sao Paulo, and featured a historic late chapter in the rivalry between luta livre and jiu-jitsu. The night saw BJJ'er Wallid Ismail take out Johil de Oliveira, as well as a heavyweight tournament win by Pedro Otavio, flying the luta livre flag.
Also, don't miss a new Private Lesson with UFC welterweight and BJJ world champion Sergio Moraes, the latest PVT Girl and much more.
