Compared to How Fighters in U.S. Prepare, Mousasi Believes He’s Way Behind
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Gegard Mousasi (Pictured), on “Beatdown,” discussing the advantages he believes fighters training in the U.S. have:
“As far as technology and how they do it, like weight cutting and stuff like that, I’m way behind them because I don’t have those contacts. I don’t have those people around me that can help me with those things. … In the U.S., it’s a lot more professional what the athletes do there. The nutrition, the trainers, the people that they work with there, it’s much more professional than what I do. If you compare me to the U.S. fighters, I’m just an amateur the way I prepare for my fights. I give [up] a lot of advantages there. I understand that, but for me, yes, I’m learning but slowly.” -

The Dutch based Armenian will return to Strikeforce on December 17th to take on an un-named opponent. Scoring Bug Strikes Again
By: Jason Probst
Gegard Mousasi (above) lost a point in the first round against Keith Jardine. | Sherdog.com
After Gegard Mousasi lost a point in the first round for an upkick to the face, I immediately got a bad feeling in my stomach. This was the kind of thing that could force a draw, especially if Keith Jardine won the first round.
However, despite hitting four of five takedowns in the stanza, Jardine was unable to do squat with Mousasi, as he took zero damage and, for the most part, popped up with relative ease. He also landed several punches in the round and dominated the second and third.
Naturally, the bout was a draw. Two judges gave Jardine the first round, which is not scandalous, even if it is a little off. What is definitely weird is that a third judge gave Jardine the second round, even though, according to Fightmetric, he was clearly outworked on the feet and did virtually no damage on the ground.
It was a game showing by Jardine, but judges need to stop scoring takedowns that do not result in damage or positional control.

Mousasi: Allowing Elbows Makes Wrestling More Important
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Gegard Mousasi (Pictured), on “Beatdown,” discussing Strikeforce’s rule change to allow elbows on the ground:
“I think now it’s more dangerous to be fighting from your back because elbows can cut you. I think now more than ever wrestling is more important. With elbows you can do more damage from the top position. It changes the fighting a little bit, but it shouldn’t matter because I shouldn’t be on my back anyway.” -

By: Chris Nelson
Hideo Tokoro: Taro Irei | Sherdog.com
Fighting and Entertainment Group today continued to fill out the card for “Dynamite: The Power of Courage 2010,” adding a trio of MMA bouts and one kickboxing match to take place on New Year’s Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
The K-1 and Dream parent company announced a featherweight MMA contest between Hideo Tokoro and boxer-turned-kickboxer Kazuhisa Watanabe, as well as an open-weight matchup featuring fan favorite Ikuhisa Minowa and judoka Hiroshi Izumi. Also confirmed was a previously reported welterweight tilt between Hayato “Mach” Sakurai and Jason High.
Meanwhile, Dream light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will take part in a K-1 rules bout against K-1 heavyweight champ Kyotaro Fujimoto, also known by the ring name Keijiro Maeda. Mousasi made his K-1 debut at last year’s “Dynamite,” where he scored a quick first-round technical knockout over promotional stalwart Musashi. Read more
