  • C.J. Tuttle Joins Press Row By: Jordan Breen

Every Wednesday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the Sherdog.com blog. This week, Breen is joined by Sherdog.com Associate Editor C.J. Tuttle.

Breen and Tuttle take stock of the UFC's needle movers in the sub-lightweight categories following considerable mainstream media attention for Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor's latest violent exploit in the Octagon. The pair touch on why ideas about Rousey abandoning MMA for the silver screen are misguided, why MMA is more akin to pro-wrestling when it comes to crossing over into Hollywood and the most interesting parts of public reaction to the Olympic bronze medalist and Irish upstart.

The Sherdog editors also discuss McGregor's recently announced UFC 178 bout with Dustin Poirier, featherweight champion Jose Aldo's neck injury, how it changes his rematch with Chad Mendes, why it could end up being a blessing in disguise for the Team Alpha Male product. Also on the slate: a less-than-flattering appraisal of 2008 Beijing Games freestyle wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo's MMA career to date amidst rumors of negotiating with the UFC.

Jose Aldo has won 17 fights in a row. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com

Jose Aldo believes he is underpaid.

On a 17-fight winning streak and long established as one of MMA’s top pound-for-pound fighters, the reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight titleholder did not pull any punches when discussing his pay during a recent interview with ESPN Brazil.

“I do feel devalued, for sure,” Aldo said. “Every fighter dreams to reach a level where he will make good money. I have other thoughts nowadays; I’ve been around the world, [and] I have a big, wide vision about that. At the same time that they give us our business, they could improve [what we are paid]. We bring [in] millions for the company. I’m a very sellable fighter, and everybody wants to watch my fights.”

Aldo has compiled a perfect 6-0 record since arriving in the UFC as part of the World Extreme Cagefighting merger in April 2011, scoring wins over Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian, Chad Mendes, Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung and Ricardo Lamas. The 27-year-old Brazilian will next defend his 145-pound championship in a rematch against Team Alpha Male’s Mendes at UFC 176 on Aug. 2.
