It’s been exactly one year since UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo last entered the cage, followed shortly thereafter by Aldo knockout out Chad Mendes and then exiting the cage to join an ecstatic Rio de Janeiro crowd. He’ll try to replicate the win, if maybe not the celebration, when he takes on Frankie Edgar on Feb. 2 at UFC 156. Read more -

Top 5 Forum Threads of the Week
By: Jeff Sherwood
Another week, another snakebitten Ultimate Fighting Championship event.
Oft-injured featherweight champion Jose Aldo withdrew from his scheduled title defense against Frankie Edgar in the UFC 153 headliner on Oct. 13 in Brazil, and onetime light heavyweight kingpin Quinton “Rampage” Jackson followed suit, exiting from the co-main event against Glover Teixeira.
In their stead, the UFC has called upon longtime middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva and Brazilian icon Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Silva will meet Stephan Bonnar at 205 pounds in the new headliner, while “Minotauro” returns from a horrific arm injury to face Dave Herman in the co-main event.
UFC 153 was not the only subject drawing attention on the Sherdog.net forums. Other topics of interest this week include Jackson’s demand for respect, Michael Bisping’s incessant trash talking and whether or not light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has fought an opponent with Vitor Belfort’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills.

Danny Castillo: Jose Aldo Grabbed Cage Against Chad Mendes, Affected Outcome
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Danny Castillo, on “Beatdown,” discussing where teammate Chad Mendes stands in the featherweight division:
“I’m not sure who the No. 3 or the No. 4 guy in the weight class is, but if you could tie for first, Chad’s definitely tied for first. I think that the fight he had with [Jose] Aldo, had Aldo not grabbed the cage, the outcome of the fight would have been different. I’m not taking anything away from Aldo. He’s phenomenal. He’s a great champion. But from the No. 3 guy to the No. 2 guy in the weight class, I think Chad is light years above the No. 3-ranked guy in the world.”
