One day after Couture’s press conference detailing his involvement with Spike TV and Bellator MMA, “The Natural” spoke with hosts TJ De Santis and Jeff Sherwood about his role on Bellator’s new reality show, his return to Spike and his current relationship with UFC President Dana White. Couture also shares his thoughts on Bellator as a promotion, the goal of the new show and if he feels this project can be as successful as “The Ultimate Fighter.”
Benavidez is just days removed from his big win over Ian McCall at UFC 156. The Team Alpha Male product joined the program to chat about his victory, where he ranks in the UFC flyweight division and if he would ever to return to 135 pounds.

Joseph Benavidez Picks Demetrious Johnson Over John Dodson
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Joseph Benavidez, on “Cheap Seats,” discussing the UFC on Fox 6 flyweight title bout between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson:
“I think it’s an excellent matchup. Dodson likes to keep it on the feet. He says he’s impossible to take down, but Demetrious finds a way to take down everyone that he goes in there with. If I had to look at it and see how it’s going to play out, I think Dodson’s just going to be too patient for his own good. I like how he fights methodically and really explodes, but sometimes I feel he’s too patient. [Against Johnson], you need that perfect mix of patience and aggression, not too much aggression, not too much patience. If you just sit there and wait for him, you’re never going to catch him. He’s like a little mouse. I think that’s the way it’s going to play out more than anything, is [Johnson] just being a little more active than Dodson, but at these weights and this caliber of athletes in the sport, all these fights are going to be super close. I think it’s going to be a close fight, but I see Demetrious being a little more active.”

Is the flyweight division a welcome addition to the UFC lineup? Tell us below. | Al Bello/Zuffa LLC/Getty Images
Fans greeted the first flyweight title fight in Ultimate Fighting Championship history with boos on Sept. 22 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, as Demetrious Johnson defeated Joseph Benavidez for 125-pound gold in the UFC 152 co-main event. UFC President Dana White was not amused.
White let loose on the boo birds, urging them never to purchase another UFC pay-per-view. Strong words from a man who has become known for them, though it is hard to argue that flyweights put on some of the most entertaining fights in mixed martial arts.
Other points of intrigue on the Sherdog.net forums this week include “Big” John McCarthy and his place in the MMA officiating hierarchy, Vinny Magalhaes criticizing Vitor Belfort for not finishing Jon Jones, a discussion on making kicks to the knee illegal and disappointment in ticket sales Across the Pond.

SRN Rewind Preview: Joseph Benavidez
By: Jack Encarnacao
On Sept. 22, Joseph Benavidez will vie to become the UFC's very first flyweight champion. Despite the gravity of the opportunity, he's as mellow and clear-headed as ever. His teammates call him an "old soul" because of this quieted nature, which is reflected in his love for board games, breakfast cereal, and dated music.
He became this person as part of a quest to stop drinking and abusing drugs, as the other men in his family did.
The 16-2 Benavidez had a similarly intense sense of purpose when he shipped out to California to train with Urijah Faber. Not only did he never quite go back to the way it used to be, but it’s been an open road ever since. That's significant, because there was a time when it looked like Benavidez might have been trapped on a dead end.
Sunday on the Sherdog Radio Network "Rewind," Joseph Benavidez joins host Jack Encarnacao on The Sunday Sitdown to recount, and reflect on, his road to a historic opportunity.
Better know MMA. Catch the Rewind, Sunday at 9 pm ET on the Sherdog Radio Network.
