Junior dos Santos finds himself in good company with Nike. | Photo: Sherdog.com
Junior dos Santos now stands alongside middleweight champion Anderson Silva and light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones, as the 28-year-old became the latest Ultimate Fighting Championship athlete to ink a sponsorship deal with international sports apparel giant Nike.
Dos Santos will defend his heavyweight crown in a rematch with the American Kickboxing Academy’s Cain Velasquez in the UFC 155 main event on Dec. 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The affable Brazilian bomber has won all nine of his fights inside the Octagon, finishing seven of them. Dos Santos burst on the scene in 2008, when he knocked out two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist Fabricio Werdum in 81 seconds at UFC 90.
Other stories of interest on Sherdog.com this week centered on famed boxing trainer Freddie Roach and his role in a potential Silva-Georges St. Pierre super fight, another injury to the snakebitten Shane Carwin, Cung Le’s signature victory over Rich Franklin in China and the announcement of an intriguing welterweight matchup between Jon Fitch and Demian Maia.

With two months to go in 2012, Breen and Encarnacao look at how the UFC's late-year slate could dramatically alter its grim fortunes on the year. The pair examine the role of Georges St. Pierre's return and the UFC on Fox 5 card in potential promotional turnaround and how other major UFC events led to lingering, residual success.
The two SRN hosts also go in on the UFC's international expansion plans, how they will shape the company's 2013 calendar, Junior dos Santos' potential stardom and which internationally-flavored UFC bouts could move the meter next year.

Daniel Cormier: Jon Jones Would Be Tougher Fight Than Junior dos Santos
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Daniel Cormier, on “Beatdown,” discussing what weight he’ll compete at in the UFC:

“If [teammate Cain Velasquez] is not the champion, why not stay at heavyweight? I’m 10-0 at heavyweight. I’m undefeated. I haven’t lost. If Cain’s not the champion, why wouldn’t I stay up and fight? ... Jon Jones is a tougher fight. I think Jon Jones is a tougher fight because of his ability to wrestle. Obviously Junior’s a bigger puncher and extremely confident, as he should be, but I think Jon’s a tougher fight for a guy like me because of his wrestling ability.” -

Junior dos Santos will defend the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight crown at UFC 155 on Dec. 29, when he collides with Cain Velasquez -- the man from whom he took the belt -- in Las Vegas. Still, many MMA fans desire to see the Brazilian battle suspended former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem, and some of them believe the Dutchman would have the upper hand in a matchup with dos Santos.
Other topics on the Sherdog.net forums include the longshot hope to resurrect a Fedor Emelianenko-Brock Lesnar showdown and more fallout from the UFC 151 cancellation fiasco, highlighted by thoughts from embattled light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, trainer Greg Jackson and members of the media.
