  • Podcast: Eddie Alvarez, Martin Kampmann, Chance Farrar By: Sherdog.com Staff

Former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, UFC welterweight Martin Kampmann and WEC fighter turned MMA promoter Chance Farrar joined Wednesday’s episode of “Beatdown” on the Sherdog Radio Network.

Fresh off his head-kick knockout of Patricky Freire, Alvarez discussed his newfound status of free agent, what the next few months will bring, and whether loyalty will make him take any sort of pay cut.

Kampmann faces Johny Hendricks next month in Montreal at UFC 154. The Xtreme Couture product joined the show to talk about his upcoming match, his durability in a fight, and whether a win could put Kampmann in title contention.

Farrar thinks 2-on-1 MMA is something worth promoting. The Arizona-based promoter talked with TJ De Santis and Jeff Sherwood about how this style of competition involves more strategy than one might thing.

  • Martin Kampmann: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Should Not Be Allowed By: Sherdog.com Staff

Martin Kampmann, on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing whether testosterone replacement therapy should be allowed in MMA:

“I think it’s bulls--t, to be honest with you. I don’t think testosterone treatment should be allowed. I think they should do way harder drug testing. I think they should disallow any kind of testosterone treatment. I think it’s bulls--t. … I think everybody should be fighting on a level playing field. You can come knock on my door any day of the week, and I’ll piss in a cup for you. I don’t think testosterone treatment should be allowed at all. You’ll probably see more and more people doing it because it’s performance enhancing when you can go in there and load yourself up on testosterone during the whole training camp. People are complaining about low energy and getting worn out, but guess what? That’s just overtraining. That happens to me every single training camp. I get worn out. I get low energy because I train my ass off and I get exhausted, but being able to use testosterone treatment, I don’t think it’s fair. I think everybody should come in there on the exact same terms. You have what God gave you, and I think that’s how you should come in and fight.”

  • Martin Kampmann Wants Condit or GSP Next, But Will Fight Hendricks If Necessary By: Sherdog.com Staff

Martin Kampmann, on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing whom he wants to fight next:

“The guys I want to fight are either [Carlos] Condit or GSP. That’s the guys I want to fight the most because they have the belts. I want to fight for the belt, but if I have to fight Johny [Hendricks] to get there, then I guess that’s what I’ll do. But more than anything I want to fight for the belt. … I don’t think [training with Hendricks previously] is a concern should that fight happen. We used to train quite a lot together. He helped me a lot with my wrestling and I helped him a little bit with his standup. It was kind of a mutual relationship there and we hung out outside of training as well, but I’m sure we can put that aside and go in there and do our best come fight time.”

  • Martin Kampmann Wants Rule Changes By: Sherdog.com Staff

Martin Kampmann, on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing the rule changes he’d like to see:

“I think it’s stupid that you have a guy in a front headlock and he’s standing up, but if his finger touches the ground, you can’t knee him in the face. I think that’s a stupid rule. I wish I could knee people in the face on the ground and even kick them in the head too, but I don’t know if they’re going to give you that. I’d like to have especially the knees. I think it’s high time. I think it favors the wrestlers that you can’t knee people in the head. They can shoot in and not have to worry about the knee once they touch the ground with their knee or whatever. I think definitely a lot of rules favor them that way, but I’d love to see them change that up and of course the scoring as well.”

  • Sherdog MMA Pick’Em: UFC on FX 2 By: Sherdog.com Staff

    Cue Men at Work.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship heads Down Under for the first time in more than a year, as former welterweight title contender Thiago Alves locks horns with the world-ranked Martin Kampmann in the UFC on FX 2 main event on Friday at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.

The promotion’s second appearance on the FX network -- which also features the first round of the UFC flyweight tournament -- will serve up the latest opportunity for Sherdog MMA Pick’Em players to put their knowledge and expertise to the test in the site’s groundbreaking fantasy game.

Alves (19-8) will be seeking back-to-back wins for the first time since 2008. The 28-year-old American Top Team representative last appeared at UFC 138 in November, when he submitted the previously unbeaten Papy Abedi with a first-round rear-naked choke at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. Long viewed as one of the welterweight division’s premier standup fighters, Alves has secured more than half (11) of his 19 professional victories by knockout or technical knockout. Wins over former title contender Josh Koscheck and UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes anchor his resume.

Kampmann (18-5) has not fought since UFC 139 in November, when he took a bite out of Rick Story and captured a unanimous decision from the fast-rising welterweight at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. An Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts export, the 29-year-old Dane wields a diverse and potent offensive game, as evidenced by his seven wins by knockout or technical knockout and six more by submission. Kampmann owns a 2009 victory over Carlos Condit, the man who holds the interim UFC welterweight crown.
