Top 5 Forum Threads of the Week
By: Jeff Sherwood
Is there a more polarizing figure in the world of mixed martial arts than UFC President Dana White? You would be hard pressed to find one.
However, White has been credited with much of the success of the world’s preeminent MMA organization -- and deservedly so. As such, he has drawn a loyal following from fans, many of which are more than willing to let their views be known.
Plenty of other subjects made the rounds on the Sherdog.net forums this week, including Steven Seagal and his supposed tutelage of middleweight champion Anderson Silva, the theories behind Mirko Filipovic’s failures in the Octagon, Greg Jackson’s impact on MMA and the Los Angeles Kings firing a shot across the UFC’s bow.

Barry Explains What Really Happened in ‘Cro Cop’ Loss
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Patrick Barry, on “Beatdown,” discussing what went wrong against Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic:

“The game plan worked. The right hand, the right leg -- everything was to a T. I was in shape for the fight. I had done all the training possible. … I just didn’t drink enough milk before the fight, and my hand broke and my foot broke in the first round. So I pretty much fought Cro Cop for 12 minutes with just my left hand, hoping that one of them was going to land. I don’t think you can really plan for breaking stuff. … It went from, ‘I’m fighting Cro Cop, so what. I’m just fighting him. He’s a man just like I am.’ To all of a sudden, when three out of my four weapons were gone, because my left leg was kind of damaged from him blocking two kicks in the first round also ... in round two and round three, a part of me was waiting to just kicked in the head. I will not deny that there was a part of my brain that was saying, ‘Any minute now, this dude is going to highlight reel you because you can’t defend anything.’” -
UFC 119 Postmortem: ‘Cro’ Stopped, Dunham Robbed
By: Jake Rossen

I think I’ll hop in the DeLorean and have a conversation with my 2002 self. Yes, I think I will.
“Hey, pal. Looking good.”
“Thanks.”
“I realize traveling through time probably deserves attention paid to more important things -- like ending terrorism or stopping Ashton Kutcher from acting, which might amount to the same thing -- but I had to tell you this: in 2010, Frank Mir knocks out Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic.”
“What?”
“It’s true. Knee to the face after three rounds of a very docile ‘Cro Cop’ just sort of staring at him.”
“You don’t say possible things.”
“I swear.”
“Oh, wait, I get it. ‘Cro Cop’ had just been paroled for murdering a middleweight Japanese guy, and he hadn’t trained, and…”
“It was kind of late notice, but then again, so were most of Mirko’s Pride fights.”
“What does this mean?” Read more -
5 Matches to Make After UFC 119
Ryan Bader file photo: Sherdog.com
Ryan Bader vs. Rich Franklin
Based on what we saw from Bader against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the idea of matching him against Jon Jones seems less than ideal. It’s certainly no knock on Bader, but he’s simply not as far along in his development as Jones. And who is?
Sacrificing prospects against one another is a losing game all around, especially when the UFC has nearly every light heavyweight of note under contract. Among them is the durable Franklin. A southpaw with underrated striking technique and an overall level of versatility that eludes most light heavyweights, “Ace” is exactly the challenge Bader needs.
A single overhand right fastball from Bader and Franklin is going to sleepy town, but the same was said about Chuck Liddell when he fought the reformed school teacher. It also bears noting that Nogueira was just an extra gear away from dragging Bader into some deep water. Franklin might be the guy to finish what the Brazilian started.
Chris Lytle vs. Dong Hyun Kim
The classic “prospect vs. veteran” matchmaking angle is what Kim needs now more than anything else. The South Korean ground-and-pound ace fights with savvy that belies his relative inexperience against world-class competition. Read more -
