Sherdog.com Preview: Ultimate Fight Night 4 Part II

DAN CHRISTISON vs. BRAD IMES

CHRISTISON: Dan Christison (Pictures) trains out of New Mexico with Ultimate Fighter reality show winner Diego Sanchez (Pictures), KOTC champion Joey Villasenor (Pictures), TUF contract winner Rashad Evans (Pictures), Keith Jardine (Pictures), Brian Schall (Pictures) and Damacio Page (Pictures) under the direction of Greg Jackson at Jackson’s Gaidojutsu Academy. He sports a professional record of 7-3.

Dan began fighting in 2001 at the Gladiator Challenge promotion and tapped out Gabe Beauperthy. He fought again in ’02 against former UFC heavyweight Champion Dan Severn (Pictures) but lost a decision to “The Beast.” In ’03 he fought more regularly, scoring a win in a local promotion before debuting in the King of the Cage. Dan fought Eric Pele (Pictures) for the KOTC super heavyweight championship and was stopped late in the first round. He met Severn again the following month and lost another (but far closer) decision.

In ’04, Dan met World Vale Tudo Championship veteran Jimmy Westfall and stopped him early in the first round. He returned to the KOTC for another win stopped on strikes and made his WEC debut against Andre Roberts (Pictures).

Christison submitted “The Chief” in the first round and met Ben Rothwell (Pictures) at the Mixed Fighting Championships 3 show. It was a long battle but Dan sunk in a Kimura about a minute into the third round to tap the Miletich fighter.

He submitted former KOTC champ Jimmy Ambriz (Pictures) in the IFC and then got the call to replace injured Kerry Schall (Pictures) on The Ultimate Fighter show. Christison lost a decision to Seth Petruzelli (Pictures) in an elimination bout and has not fought since last July.

IMES: Brad Imes (Pictures), 3-1-0, was a starting offensive tackle during his senior year at University of Missouri and played professional football for the Arena Football League’s Iowa Barnstormers. Imes is also the former strength coach for the University of Missouri and Texas Christian University football teams.

He has trained with members of the Miletich Martial Arts camp including Pat Miletich (Pictures), Jeremy Horn (Pictures), Mike Whitehead (Pictures) and Tim Sylvia (Pictures) as well as of current UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin (Pictures) and New Generation Martial Arts instructor Jorge Gurgel (Pictures).

Imes debuted at the IFC Night of the Warriors 5 show and defeated Cesar Gracie (Pictures) student Terrell Dees (Pictures) with strikes. He made his World Extreme Cagefighting debut at WEC 12 and went 3-0 in the promotion. Brad defeated MFC (Canada) veteran Rob MacDonald (Pictures) in The Ultimate Fighter season two elimination bout with a triangle choke and then took a split decision victory over Seth Petruzelli (Pictures). At The Ultimate Fighter finale, Imes lost to Rashad Evans (Pictures) by split decision.

MY PICK: Imes. These are both giant guys and stamina is usually a factor. Christison hasn’t fought in three-quarters of a year. He may be training but that is a long layoff for a pro fighter. Imes hasn’t had a fight since last November, but Christison is also a very late replacement for Gabriel Gonzaga. At least Imes knew he was going to fight this week and has been preparing for months. Imes by TKO in the first round.
