Brazilian Notebook: Happy Times for UFC Champ

The reach of Brazilian fighters has recently touched the U.S. In the latest edition of the Brazilian notebook, we take a look at UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who celebrates his winning season. Also, Pedro Rizzo (Pictures) comments on last weekend's victory over Justin Eilers (Pictures) in the upstart promotion Art of War.

Finally Antoine Jaoude (Pictures), the heavyweight for the International Fight League's Southern California Condors, looks to defeat another opponent to help his team in its search for the IFL crown.

Meanwhile, back home in Brazil, the country's top mixed martial arts gyms, Brazilian Top Team and Chute Boxe, duel again. What was the outcome?

Rising Brazilian talent also makes the trek to Japan.

UFC champ celebrates his success

Anderson Silva is one of the few fighters who won three title belts in three different MMA organizations. The reigning UFC middleweight, who also held Cage Rage and Shooto titles, is undefeated in three Octagon tilts.

And the Brazilian is currently celebrating his good fortune.

"God gave me talent and put the right people in my way," said Silva, whose record stands at 18-4. "In Shooto I won my first title and I beat Hayato Sakurai (Pictures). In Cage Rage the title came at the right time — the organization was growing up and I needed some exposure, which came to me with the title. UFC came to crown my career. I'm living the best moment in all my life."

Silva spoke about his popularity among American fans, promising that he is already training for his next bout.

"I think now the fans know me well, and I know they are supporting me more and more. I'm keeping my shape for the next fights. I'll be back soon."

Rizzo comments on his victory in "Art of War"

Out of the ring for 13 months, Pedro Rizzo (Pictures) returned to action last Friday by defeating Justin Eilers (Pictures) in Dallas, Texas. The Brazilian spoke to Sherdog.com about his victory.

"That was a good fight," he said. "We exchanged a lot of punches. I ran over him all the time. Eilers had a good streak. He had seven victories in a row, and I beat him. I'm very happy with my victory."

At the end of the second round Rizzo (15-7-0) said his lead left hand was fractured, and at the conclusion of the fight his right was noticeably swollen.

"I will have the surgeries as soon as I back to Brazil," the former UFC title contender said.

Jaoude anxious for IFL comeback

Antoine Jaoude (Pictures) is the main heavyweight for the International Fight League's Southern California Condors. The team, lead by Marco Ruas (Pictures), will be back in action on Saturday, and Jaoude faces Tokyo Sabre Wayne Cole.

A winner in his IFL debut, the Brazilian expects another big challenge this weekend. "I will fight in the IFL again, and I'm very happy," said the Brazilian wrestler. "I'll be very motivated and I hope to win again. I'm training for this."

About his opponent, Jaoude (5-2-0) admitted that he doesn't know much.

"All I know is he fought eight times before," the heavyweight said. "I'll leave it in God's hands, and I hope this is just like last time. I didn't know much about the other guy and I won."

BTT enjoys good moments in Floripa Fight 3

Last Saturday on the beautiful Florianópolis, Floripa Fight 3 brought amazing fights. In a Muay Thai match Vitor Miranda proved to be one of the best strikers in Brazil, knocking out Eduardo Maiorino in the first round.

In MMA action, two Brazilian Top Team athletes stood out. Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira defeated Rodrigo Gripp by a rear-naked choke and Rosimar Palhares used the same technique to submit Helio Dipp, in a classic BTT vs. Chute Boxe challenge.

Shooto Brazil opens 2007 season

Shooto Brazil, now managed by André Pederneiras, is ready for 2007 with an all-new look. Scheduled for one of Rio de Janeiro's gyms, the organization put just 100 tickets on sale. With VIP advantages, the audience will be able to watch the fights as if they were seated in a restaurant, served by bartenders.

Like many of the European-style cards featuring this style seating, the event was a success and the second edition scheduled for March 24 is already sold-out. Thirteen fights are listed on the bout sheet, with the possibility for the winners to fight in Japan.
