Several good events took place last weekend, and there is a lot more to come. If all of this isn't enough, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (Pictures) shows that he is in a higher level in Brazilian boxing and he is invited represent Brazil in the Pan American Games this July.

Indeed, there are good winds blowing in Brazil.

Thales Leites (Pictures) celebrates victory at UFC 69

After a losing his Octagon debut the end of last year, Thales Leites (Pictures) did well in his comeback, out-pointing Pete Sell (Pictures) to win by decision in Houston, Texas.

"I thought it was a very good fight," said Leites. "I needed this win and I trained a lot for it, to show my real face to the UFC. Everything ran like I planned, the only thing I couldn't do was submit the guy."

Earning a BJJ black belt from Nova União, one of the most technical gyms in Brazil, Leites showed his outstanding ground-fight knowledge but was surprised by the courage from his opponent.

"He was a true warrior avoiding submissions," said Leites. "I looked for a submission every time I could. At the end of the first round, I thought he went to fall sleep, but he resisted, and surprised me."

The middleweight's development on the ground fight didn't go unnoticed by UFC president Dana White, Leites recalled. "The crowd enjoyed the fight, and they praised a lot my skills," he said. "Dana White also said he enjoyed my BJJ game."

Without know when he will be back to the Octagon -- "I hope to be back soon," he stated -- Leites confessed he was surprised by the result from the main event for UFC 69, when Matt Serra (Pictures) dethroned Georges St. Pierre (Pictures).

"I thought St Pierre would win," he explained. "But Matt Serra (Pictures) trusted on himself and he was very focused to that fight. He surprised everybody."

Roan Carneiro (Pictures) comments on his UFC debut

One of the most talented Brazilian Top Team athletes, Roan Carneiro (Pictures) enjoyed a successful UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 9, beating Rich Clementi (Pictures) by judges' decision.

The Brazilian enjoyed his debut. "I thought it was fantastic to fight in the Octagon," said Carneiro. "This fight was a adaptation fight, now I have to improve a lot of things to not commit mistakes again. Rich Clementi (Pictures) is very experienced, and he surprised me with his defensive ground game. But like I saw, I will improve this."

Days before he jumped on the plane to Las Vegas, Carneiro was another victim in the Brazilian flight crisis. With flight controllers throughout Brazil on strike, anyone with travel plans was effectively grounded.

Carneiro's flight was postponed and he landed in Las Vegas just two days before the fight.

"This harmed me a lot," he recalled. "When I went to the airport, my flight was canceled, without forecast for another flight. A lot of things passing through my mind: I thought I wouldn't fight. I took my flight two days later, and landed in Vegas two days before the fight, it was madness; I couldn't even rest. I went right to the doctors and after this, I went to the photos session, and I was still on my cut-weight diet. Thanks to God, he blessed me, and everything ran very well."

The Brazilian praised the UFC's organization.

"Man, they are very organized," said Carneiro. "Everything started at the right hour. They put the bandages on our hands and everything just starts. It was awesome. I'm very happy to be in UFC."

Fighting at welterweight, Carneiro knows that this is one of most balanced divisions in the UFC, but he bets he will reach his goals soon.

"This is the hardest weight division," he said. "There is only tough guys in there. I'm walking slowly, step by step, until I get there."
