Sick Carano Off EliteXC Card

The talented and popular Gina Carano (Pictures) was forced to withdraw from her June 2 EliteXC bout versus Jan Finney (Pictures), Sherdog.com confirmed Wednesday afternoon, due to an undisclosed stomach virus.

"Gina has fallen ill upon returning from her trip to Thailand," said Jared Shaw, Vice President of EliteXC. "She was in the hospital. We are awaiting the test results. For now she is off the card and more details will follow, and there will still be a third fight."

While in Thailand filming the documentary Fight Girls for the Oxygen Network, Carano's manager Bardia Ghahremani told Sherdog.com that the 140-pound female fighter began feeling ill. However, Carano worked under the assumption that she was suffering from a head cold and resumed training after returning to Las Vegas.

"Gina came back to the States and began training her butt off," said Ghahremani. "She had been training with Randy Couture (Pictures) and his team in Vegas at Xtreme Couture. After a few days she became very ill, very fatigued and couldn't train anymore. She spent quite a bit of time in the hospital because of the virus and we decided that with only two or so weeks before the week, it was smart to pull out."

According to a report on FightNetwork.com, Carano was taken by ambulance to a local hospital Saturday evening while attending the World Extreme Cagefighting card at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The 24-year-old Master Toddy-trained fighter was treated for dehydration.

"We're not sure exactly what caused the virus but we're confident she'll be able to recover quickly and resume training," Ghahremani added. "We'll obviously have to reschedule her fight and we are sorry to [Jan Finney (Pictures)] as well. Gina is very disappointed that she won't be able to fight and she is disappointed that this illness has prevented her opponent from fighting her as well. Gina's upset about this entire situation and is looking forward to making a full recovery and resuming her training and fighting career."

Leading into K-1's "Dynamite!! USA," Carano-Finny was slated to be one of three SHOWTIME-televised fights from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on June 2.
