UFC 97 Breakdown: The Prelims
Friday, April 17, 2009
by Tomas Rios (trios@sherdog.com)

How do you spot a hardcore mixed martial arts fan? Just look for the guy who begs the cosmos for some quick stoppages on the pay-per-view card just so he can take in some dark match goodness. There should be plenty of those people around this Saturday, as UFC 97 “Redemption” boasts a seven-fight undercard at the Bell Centre in Montreal, highlighting everyone from gatekeepers to veterans to prospects.

Whether it’s the lightweight dustup between Sam Stout and Matt Wiman, the return of would-be middleweight maestro Denis Kang or the jiu-jitsu showdown starring grappling aces Mark Bocek and David Bielkheden, there’s something for every combat sports junkie in need of his or her fix.
