UFC 68 “The Uprising” Undercard Preview

Tibau vs. Dent

Gleison Tibau vs. Jason Dent (Pictures)

Gleison Tibau was a Rio de Janeiro jiu-jitsu champion and a Rio de Janeiro wrestling champion. He carries a pro record of 11-4 in MMA and rumored to have a 12-0-1 amateur record. At just 19, the four-year veteran of the sport has spent the majority of his fight career in Brazil and made his American MMA debut last November at UFC 65 against Nick Diaz (Pictures).

He favors the rear-naked choke and armbar as tools to submit opponents. Tibau showed impressive ground skills and had Diaz in trouble in the opening period, but the veteran persevered and finished the ATT standout with strikes in the second round.

Jason "Dynamite" Dent is a San Chi Ryu Karate black belt and runs the GriffonRawl Thai Boxing & MMA Academy in Ohio. He won the Midwest middleweight Muay Thai title and holds the Next Level Fighting lightweight and the Extreme Combat Challenge 145 pound titles in MMA.

Dent has been fighting professionally since 2003 and sports a 12-7 record with the majority of his loses coming via decision to top competition, including Shooto hero Tetsuji Kato (Pictures), Miletich Martial Arts fighter Antoine Skinner (Pictures), and UFC veteran Jeff Curran (Pictures). Only Ryan Schultz (Pictures) has been able to finish "Dynamite" with strikes.

From what I've seen Jason relies on his Muay Thai skills and will throw knees from the clinch and accurate leg kicks. But his defense is suspect and he will take some abuse from precise strikers throwing bombs down the center.

He also has a controlling guard on the mat and, like his opponent, will look for choke or armbar submissions. In Jason's only Octagon appearance he lost a unanimous decision to Roger Huerta (Pictures) at UFC 63.

After struggling with a physically superior Diaz in his last bout, Gleison has dropped to the lightweight division and he'll likely only be faster and more powerful than before. Dent has just one loss in the UFC, too, but he tends to "play with his food" and drag out competitions against those that might have a skill advantage and use it against him win a decision.
