5 Things You Might Not Know About Angela Hill

Chase RuttigFeb 23, 2018

One of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s original strawweights, Angela Hill has had an interesting career path since appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter.” From initial success in the Octagon to setbacks against top fighters and a move to Invicta Fighting Championships to get back on track, Hill’s career has always been noteworthy.

Scheduled to face ranked strawweight Maryna Moroz at UFC on Fox 28, here are five things you might not know about Hill.

1. Only one professional bout before Octagon debut.

Unlike the vast majority of fighters, Hill did not bounce around in the lower promotions of the mixed martial arts universe before achieving a breakthrough to the big show. Hill had just one fight outside of the UFC, appearing at USFFC 18 “Metal and Mayhem” in 2014. Hill earned herself a second round TKO over Stephanie Skinner and shortly after made the move to the major leagues.

2. First round loss on ‘TUF.’

Hill earned her opportunity in the newly created women’s strawweight division in 2014 as a member of “The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will be Crowned” tournament. Her appearance on the show was very brief as she was eliminated by Carla Esparza in her opening bout of the tournament via standing rear-naked choke in the opening frame.

3. Still looking for the finish.

Hill has struggled to end fights during her Octagon tenure. With zero wins via TKO or submission, both of her two UFC victories came via unanimous decision with wins over Emily Kagan and Ashley Yoder. She has three total career finishes to her credit, all by way of knockout.

4. Undefeated Invicta FC champion.

In Invicta, Hill became the face of the women’s strawweight division and won the promotion’s strawweight title with a victory against the highly-respected Livia Renata Souza. She defended the title against Kaline Medeiros at Invicta FC 20 via unanimous decision and returned to the UFC with a perfect external record.

5. Bonus money.

Hill’s return to the UFC from Invicta FC delivered on the hype in a thrilling war against Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Night 104. The return ended in disappointment as the judges gave Andrade the unanimous decision win. However, Hill earned herself fight of the night honors and a hefty bonus for her efforts.
