Preview: PFL 2 2024

Sy vs. Silveira

Light Heavyweight

Sadibou Sy (16-7-2, 10-5-2 PFL) vs. Joshua Silveira (12-2, 5-2 PFL)

ODDS: Sy (-155), Silveira (+130)

Sy and Silveira are very different fighters who can relate to one thing: Both men watched $1 million slip through their grasps last season. Sy, the 2022 PFL welterweight champion, was confident he would repeat as champion before Magomed Magomedkerimov caught him in the third round with a guillotine. The loss was not how Sy would have preferred to end his five-year PFL welterweight run, but at least it set the stage for the former Swedish kickboxer to debut as a light heavyweight. Silveira, a former two-division champion in the LFA, believed he would add another promotion’s belt to his trophy room before Impa Kasangany crushed those dreams. Nobody had made it out of the first round with Silveira all season, but Kasangnay bullied and controlled him for five rounds.

Watching the confetti fall for the opposition can be a great motivator, and these two guys share that. They both want to return to the championship and finish the job, but first, one must take out the other. Sy could do it in an instant with his silky-smooth striking. Last year, “The Swedish Denzel Washington” proved that he has got game when he took flight and hit Shane Mitchell with a hurricane of a spinning wheel kick that left his man out of time and laid out along the fence. Silveira’s equalizer is that he is a well-rounded fighter who can get the job done in several ways. He has stopped fighters with punches, knees and kicks. Plus, who could forget the glaring fact that he is a natural light heavyweight? Sy weighed in at 169.8 pounds for his last fight. Silveira weighed 202.6 pounds. It will be impressive if the 37-year-old Sy puts on the extra weight while remaining nimble. What about his chin? Sy has never been hit by a light heavyweight, and Silveira is not the guinea pig you want to test on. Sy has all the skills and speed to make this interesting, but one good shot could put him out.
