By The Numbers: Frank Mir

Brian KnappDec 29, 2021

Frank Mir spent the vast majority of his career on something of a rollercoaster ride, complete with exhilarating highs and depressing lows.

The former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholder’s future in mixed martial arts remains uncertain after his contract with Bellator MMA was allowed to expire in April 2020. He has since dabbled unsuccessfully in professional boxing, losing a unanimous decision to Steve Cunningham before being victimized by Kubrat Pulev in a first-round technical knockout. Mir’s record in MMA sits at 19-13—the same position it has been since he captured a unanimous verdict over former International Fight League champion and “The Ultimate Fighter 10” winner Roy Nelson in an Oct. 25, 2019 rematch atop Bellator 231.

As the MMA community awaits word on Mir’s next move, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied him along the way:

42: Years of age for Mir, who was born in Las Vegas on May 24, 1979.

14: Mir victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission, accounting for 74% of his career total (19). His list of victims includes Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (twice), Brock Lesnar, Mirko Filipovic and Tim Sylvia. Mir owns four other victories by decision and one more by disqualification.

419: Days spent by Mir as UFC heavyweight champion. He laid claim to the vacant title on June 19, 2004 and was stripped of it on Aug. 12, 2005 due to inactivity resulting from a career-threatening motorcycle accident.

4: Promotions in which Mir has plied his MMA trade. He has gone 16-11 in the UFC, 1-2 in Bellator, 1-0 in HOOKnSHOOT and 1-0 in the International Fighting Championship.

235,000: Dollars in post-fight bonus money banked by Mir across his 27 appearances in the UFC. He was awarded “Submission of the Night” on two occasions and “Performance of the Night” on two others.

He disposed of Pete Williams with an inside shoulder lock in 46 seconds at UFC 36 on March 22, 2002, took care of David Abbott with a toe hold in 46 seconds at UFC 41 on Feb. 28, 2003 and submitted Sylvia with an armbar in 50 seconds at UFC 48 on June 19, 2004. All told, Mir has delivered 12 of his 19 victories inside one round.
