By the Numbers: UFC Auckland

The longest active winning streak in the heavyweight division is no more.

In a bout where virtually every strike was thrown with murderous intent, 43-year-old Mark Hunt outlasted Derrick Lewis in the UFC Fight Night 110 “Hunt vs. Lewis” headliner, winning via technical knockout 3:51 into the fourth round in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday night. Few in the mixed martial arts community expected the matchup of the two knockout artists to last nearly that long.

A right hand to the jaw in the third frame had “The Black Beast” reeling, and when his opponent covered up near the fence, Hunt teed off with punches and elbows until the bout was halted. With that, Lewis’ six-fight winning streak became a thing of the past. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 110, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.

59: Significant strikes landed by Hunt. By comparison, Lewis landed 51. In a bout where both heavyweights maintained a measured pace, Lewis outlanded his foe 11 to 5 in round one and 17 to 14 in round two, while Hunt held a 16-to-10 edge in round three and a 24-to-13 advantage in round four.

10: Significant leg strikes landed by Hunt. Lewis, meawhile, landed three. Figures elsewhere were relatively even, as Hunt outlanded his foe 37 to 34 in head strikes and Lewis held a 14-to-12 edge in significant strikes to the body.

7: KO/TKO victories in UFC competition for Hunt. In addition to Lewis, “The Super Samoan” has finished Frank Mir, Antonio Silva, Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve, Cheick Kongo and Chris Tuchscherer.

0: Takedowns landed in three attempts by Lewis. “The Black Beast” has only landed four takedowns total in his four Octagon appearances.

6: First-round finishes for Derek Brunson in UFC competition, the most in the history of the middleweight division. The North Carolina native knocked out Dan Kelly 1:16 into the opening round of their co-headlining encounter to move past Chris Leben and Ronald Souza and into sole possession of the top spot..

8: Victories at 185 pounds for Brunson since 2012, tying him for most wins in the division during that time. His six finishes are also tied for the most among middleweights since 2012.

1-5: Record for “The Ultimate Fighter 9” winner Ross Pearson since 2016. Pearson was stopped for the first time in his last nine bouts when Dan Hooker knocked him out with a knee 3:02 into the second round of their featured lightweight tilt. Pearson had gone the distance in defeat against Steven Ray, Jorge Masvidal, Will Brooks and Francisco Trinaldo during his current slump.

0:22: Time of Ion Cutelaba’s knockout of Luis Henrique da Silva at light heavyweight. That ranks as the seventh-fastest KO in the history of the 205-pound division. The others: Ryan Jimmo (seven seconds at UFC 149); James Irvin (nine seconds at UFC 54); Anthony Johnson (13 seconds at UFC 202), Anthony Perosh (14 seconds at UFC 163); Vladimir Matyushenko (20 seconds at UFC 129) and Kyle Kingsbury (21 seconds at UFC 126).

14: Significant strikes by which Cutelaba outlanded da Silva in their abbreviated affair. All 15 the significant strikes landed by Cutelaba were to the head.

0:49: Time of Ben Nguyen’s submission of former title challenger Tim Elliott, making it the second-fastest finish in the history of the UFC’s flyweight division. Fredy Serrano owns the top spot for his 44-second TKO of Zhikui Yao at UFC Fight Night 79 in November 2015.

25:00: Time of Elliott’s unanimous decision loss to reigning flyweight king Demetrious Johnson at “The Ultimate Fighter 24” finale this past December.

1,113: Days since Vinc Pichel’s last Octagon appearance, a decision triumph over Anthony Njokuani at UFC 173. “From Hell” returned in emphatic fashion on Saturday night, as he knocked out Damien Brown 3:37 into the first round of their lightweight clash.

10: Takedowns successfully defended by Luke Jumeau in a unanimous verdict over Dominique Steele at welterweight. Steele landed his lone takedown of the fight in the first round but went 0-for-10 over the final 10 minutes.

6: UFC flyweight triumphs for John Moraga following his dominant unanimous decision triumph over Octagon newcomer Ashkan Mokhtarian. That ties him with John Lineker and Kyoji Horiguchi for the third-most wins in the history of the division. Only Demetrious Johnson (12) and Joseph Benavidez (10) have won more.

4: Submission attempts by Moraga in the bout. The MMA Lab representative dominated grappling exchanges against Mokhtarian and also passed guard 10 times during the 125-pound contest.

190: Combined significant strikes landed by J.J. Aldrich (98) and Chan-Mi Jeon (92) in their strawweight clash. Aldrich took a unanimous decision over her short-notice foe in the evening’s opening bout.

19: Age of Jeon, making her the youngest active fighter on the UFC roster.
