Chad Mendes is still very much a contender in the UFC’s featherweight division.

The Team Alpha Male standout blasted past Ricardo Lamas in the UFC Fight Night “Mendes vs. Lamas” main event at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va., on Saturday afternoon, putting away his opponent 2:45 into round one.

It was the sixth win in seven outings for Mendes, who was coming off a hard-fought defeat in a title bout against Jose Aldo at UFC 179. With another impressive triumph in the books, Mendes figures to take a keen interest in the result of the upcoming title tilt between Aldo and Conor McGregor at UFC 189. 12: UFC/World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight victories for Mendes, second most in the history of the two promotions behind only reigning UFC 145-pound champion Jose Aldo (15).

490: Days since Julianna Pena’s first-round TKO victory over Jessica Rakoczy at “The Ultimate Fighter 18” Finale. Pena , who was sidelined after suffering a knee injury during training, returned to action with a first-round TKO of Milana Dudieva at UFC Fight Night.

37: Significant strikes, including 32 on the ground, by which Pena outlanded Dudieva, who failed to land a single significant strike in defeat. “The Venezuelan Vixen” also outlanded her foe by a 65-to-10 margin in total strikes.

4:30:32: Total Octagon time for Clay Guida, No. 4 among active UFC fighters behind Diego Sanchez (4:37:57), Gleison Tibau (4:51:15) and Frankie Edgar (5:10:21). Guida spent 15 minutes in the cage in taking a unanimous verdict against Robbie Peralta on Saturday.

6: Takedowns landed, in 11 attempts, by Guida in the featherweight bout.

60: Career takedowns landed by Guida, who moved past Frankie Edgar (56) and into second place among active UFC fighters behind only Gleison Tibau (82).

157: Career takedown attempts by Guida, who surpassed Demian Maia (156), Tibau (151) and Frankie Edgar (147) with his 11 tries against Peralta.

1,605: Days since Dustin Poirier’s last lightweight appearance, a 53-second stoppage of Zachary Mickelwright at WEC 52 on Nov. 11, 2010. After an 8-3 run at featherweight, Poirier returned to 155 pounds in emphatic fashion on Saturday, stopping Carlos Diego Ferreira with punches 3:45 into round one.

2: Knockdowns landed by Poirier prior to his finish of Ferreira.

10: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 13 tracked by MMADecisions.com , that awarded the women’s bantamweight clash between Lauren Murphy and Liz Carmouche to Murphy. The cageside judges saw things differently, however, as Carmouche earned a trio of 29-28 nods to halt a two-fight skid.

149: Total strikes landed by Carmouche. By comparison, Murphy landed 67. However, Murphy held a 46-to-38 advantage in significant strikes landed.

1-5-1: Record for Gray Maynard since 2011, with his lone win coming via lackluster decision against Clay Guida in the UFC on FX 4 headliner on June 22, 2012. Maynard dropped a three-round verdict to Alexander Yakovlev on Saturday, ending his string of defeats via KO or TKO at four.

5: Knockdowns suffered by Maynard in his last four Octagon appearances. Yakovlev dropped “The Bully” with a straight left in round two of their lightweight encounter.

15: Takedown attempts successfully defended by Yakovlev. The 30-year-old Russian was only taken down twice by Maynard – once in round two and once in round three.

1: Career defeat for Maynard in fights that go the distance following his loss to Yakovlev. The Xtreme Couture product is now 9-1 overall in bouts that go to the judges’ scorecards.

32: Significant strikes from distance landed by Ron Stallings in his unanimous decision triumph over Justin Jones, who landed just five. Stallings also held a 17-to-3 edge in significant strikes to the body in the middleweight bout.
