Report: UFC 224 Booked for May 12 in Rio de Janeiro for Octagon's Ninth Trip to the City

Before the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its debut in Belem this Saturday night, Brazilian fans have reason to be excited.

According to a Sunday evening report from Brazilian outlet Combate.com, UFC 224 will take place in Rio de Janeiro on May 12. It will be the promotion’s first pay-per-view event in Brail since Max Holloway defeated Jose Aldo at UFC 212 last June.

No venue has yet been revealed, but the leading candidate is Jeunesse Arena, where UFC 212 was held. It has been the ccompany’s Rio home since UFC 134 in August 2011. Previously, the venue was known as HSBC Arena.

The report states that the UFC is targeting a potential all-Brazilian showdown between UFC women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and featherweight queen Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino. Both titleholders, as well as UFC President Dana White, have expressed interest in booking the contest.

UFC Fight Night 125, headlined by a middleweight bout between former 205-pound champion Lyoto Machida and 10-0 prospect Eryk Anders, takes place this Saturday night at Guilherme Paraense Arena in Belem, the company’s first visit to Brazil’s 11th largest city.
