Robinson Wins FX3 Light Heavyweight Title

Jun 22, 2008
READING, England -- Ryan Robinson claimed the FX3 light heavyweight title in style Sunday, tearing through Ryan White (Pictures) in 90 seconds.

Robinson stayed calm in the early moments of the fight as he fended off a guillotine attempt from his Zero Tolerance Fight Skool-trained opponent. Out of danger, the jiu-jitsu specialist smoothly transitioned to north-south and applied a nasty-looking kimura to claim the vacant title.

The newly crowned champion said the fight had not turned out as expected.

"I had a game plan … and it went to s---! I thought, ‘Let's stand up with him. Ah f--- it, take him down,'" Robinson said with a laugh. "To be honest, I get that [kimura] every night in training. I knew that as long as I passed to the side, I'd be OK and I nearly ripped his f---ing arm off."

Marius Sukys (Pictures) recovered from a shaky start to claim a patient submission victory over U.K. veteran Sol Gilbert (Pictures) at 4:34 of the first round. The Brighton fighter started well with a solid takedown and a series of damaging punches on the floor. However, Sukys weathered the storm and took Gilbert's back before applying a rear-naked choke.

After two years away from the cage, Jeremy Bailey (Pictures) returned with an extremely aggressive performance. He battered Arunas Klicius on the floor, giving referee Grant Waterman no choice but to stop the contest after only two minutes.

Bailey implemented an unforgiving psychological game plan even before the fight began, as he stared wildly at his opponent throughout the introductions. Once the action had begun, the "Bad Boy" was equally as malicious, bundling Klicius to the floor and hammering out the victory with punches.

In an incredible up-and-down, back-and-forth fight, Rough House representative Dean Amasinger drew on every moment of his submissions training to escape a pair of tight armbar attempts from tough opponent Stuart Rickman. To the delight of his traveling supporters, the Nottingham scrapper eventually mounted Rickman and hammered out a hard-fought win 4:05 into the first.

Jeff Hayes (Pictures) started with a bang by flying out of the block to land a superb flying knee on Poole Jiu-Jitsu opponent Lloyd Clarkson (Pictures). To his credit, Clarkson was able to recover instantly, then took his opponent's back and secured a choke at 55 seconds.

In a fascinating back-and-forth tussle, Tim Radcliffe (Pictures) came through a couple of scares to beat Sami Berik (Pictures). Berik refused to be dominated on the floor and scored a pair of incredible power-based reversals before beginning his own ground assault.

Radcliffe, however, held a firm advantage on the floor. Eventually he took Berik's back and sank the choke just one second before the end of the first round.

In undercard action, Nick Osipczak (Pictures) blew through late-replacement Nigel Whitear (Pictures), taking the fight to the floor and choking his opponent out in 1:55. … Edgelson Lue showed some notable improvement on the ground as he choked out Team Extreme fighter Brendan Flanagan (Pictures) at 2:40 in the first round. … Irvin Daniels stayed in control throughout his impressive armbar victory over the massively muscled Kosovan Ali Reccica at 4:20 of the second round. … Greg Siwy and Phil Else (Pictures) bashed their way to first-round wins over opponents Wojciech Jamrozik and Davin Byfield. … "Team Bad Boy" fighter Matt Smith started the night with an impressive knockout when he scored with a brutal left high kick to defeat Mark Ferreira in 10 seconds.

In cage kickboxing action, Marvin Arnold Bleau (Pictures) made a meal of his middleweight fight with Azran Quasid (Pictures), a fighter who usually competes at lightweight and took the bout on six days' notice. Bleau dominated the contest in less-than-dynamic style to claim the FX3 middleweight cage kickboxing title by unanimous decision. … Martin Goink and Phil Pullen went to war in their lightweight encounter, trading hard kicks, punches and knockdowns throughout three rounds of relentless action. Goink pulled ahead with three knockdowns over Pullen's two to claim the unanimous decision.
