UFC Fight Night “Lineker vs. Dodson” was full of surprises on Saturday at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, and the music selections made by the fighters were part of the story surrounding the event.
Mexican prospect Brandon Moreno pulled off quite a shocker when he submitted Louis Smolka with a first-round guillotine choke and set the tone for a main card that was highlighted by upsets. The 22-year-old was accompanied to the cage by El Tri’s “Cuandro tu no Estas” ahead of the most significant victory of his career. Smolka selected Kevin Gates’ “Showin Up” before being upended inside of three minutes.
Meanwhile, Ultimate Fighting Championship newcomer Zak Ottow sprang an upset of his own, as he toppled Joshua Burkman in a split decision. The Cult’s “Fire Woman” brought him to the Octagon as a short-notice replacement for former King of the Cage champion Bobby Green.
Other standout tracks included Dethklock’s “Thunderhorse” (Tamdan McCrory), Kids Next Door’s “Children of the Night” (John Dodson), Three 6 Mafia’s “It’s a Fight” (Hacran Dias) and Johnny Cash’s cover of the Tom Petty hit “I Won’t Back Down” (Kelly Faszholz).
